DeLand, Fla. — The Stetson University women’s lacrosse team fell 11-10 to Niagara University in a back-and-forth game Thursday night at the ATC.

The Hatters (0-2) were hot out of the gate as Molly Kearney got Stetson on the board with 6:26 left in the first quarter. Despite surrendering a goal two minutes later, Jessica Duggan scored just before the end of the quarter to take back a 2-1 lead. Saige-Lyn Gidzinski followed Duggan with a goal at the start of the second quarter as the Hatters were in the driver’s seat.

Later in the second, Niagara’s Kendall Schneider cut the Hatters lead to 3-2, but Stetson scored consecutive goals to take a 5-2 edge with 9:31 left before the break. The Hatters and Purple Eagles traded blows in the final 9:00 of the quarter but Stetson held a 7-4 lead before intermission.

In the third, Niagara knotted the game at seven apiece as the Purple Eagles held Stetson socreless through the quarter. Despite scoring three times in the fourth, the Purple Eagles held off the Hatters offense by a lone goal, ultimately winning 11-10.

Duggan and Camden Frissora each tallied two goals on the night as eight Hatters found the back of the Niagara net.

The Stetson women’s lacrosse team will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 27 as the Hatters host Winthrop University at noon at the ATC.
