Stetson Hatters fall to Chants on Senior Day
DeLand, Fla. — The 2022 Stetson University lacrosse season came to a close Saturday afternoon as the Hatters fell 23-13 to Coastal Carolina on Senior Day.
The Hatters (4-11, 1-4 ASUN) faced a 5-0 deficit by the 6:12 mark in the 1st quarter. Two minutes later, senior Maria Snee got Stetson on the board with the first of her three goals on the day, but after one quarter of action, the Chants held a six-goal lead over the Hatters. In the 2nd, Snee found the back of the net again on a free position shot to cut it to a 10-3 Stetson deficit. Over the final 8:00 of the 2nd quarter, the Hatters outscored the Chanticleers 4-3 to make it a 15-8 deficit headed into the intermission.
In the 3rd, after Coastal’s Kayla Downey opened the quarter with a goal, senior Saige Roe and freshman Samantha Paglino scored back-to-back goals to get the Hatters into double figures. However, after Paglino and Roe’s goals, Stetson went on to score only three more times over the next 27 minutes as the Hatters dropped their final contest of the year, 23-13.
Maria Snee recorded her third hat trick of the season while Paglino, Roe, Jacklyn Lavoie, and Jordyn Humphrey each scored twice. Lavoie led the way with seven draw controls for the Hatters, a season-high for the senior.
Stetson finished the year with a 4-11 overall record as the Hatters went 1-4 in ASUN action.
