Stetson Hatters fall to KSU 19-10 in ASUN opener

DeLand, Fla. — The Stetson University women’s lacrosse team dropped its fourth contest in a row Saturday afternoon at the ATC as the Hatters fell 19-10 to Kennesaw State University in the first ASUN matchup of the year.

The Hatters (3-8) fell behind early as the Owls took a 6-0 lead by the 7:29 mark in the 1st quarter. Saige Roe got the Hatters on the board at the 4:30 mark with a man-down goal, but KSU scored twice more to end the quarter as the Owls held an 8-1 lead through the opening 15:00. In the 2nd, the Owls continued to hold a commanding lead over the Hatters as KSU tacked on three more and took an 11-4 lead into intermission. 

In the 3rd, Roe scored her second goal of the afternoon, but the Owl’s offense countered with five goals in a row. Jessica Duggan offset the Owls offensive brigade with a goal in the final minute of the quarter, but by the end of the 3rd, the Owls held a 17-6 lead. Then in the 4th, the Hatters scored four goals in the fourth as Roe picked up her third for a hat trick, but it was not enough as the Hatters fell 19-10. 

Seven Hatters scored in the loss as Roe’s hat trick led the offense. Fiona Williams led the Stetson defense with three caused turnovers while freshman Mia Judd had two of her own. In goal, Kiera McCarthy had 10 saves on the day. 

The Stetson lacrosse team will be back in action next week, on Saturday, April 9 as the Hatters head to Lynchburg, Va. to square off against Liberty. Game time is set for noon.
