BOX SCORE

Clinton, S.C. — The Stetson University women’s lacrosse team routed Presbyterian College 16-4 for its second win in a row Wednesday afternoon as nine Hatters scored at least once in the lopsided win.

The Hatters (2-2) got out to an early lead after freshman Samantha Paglino scored on a free position shot. For the next 8:00, Paglino’s goal was the only score of the contest until Saige-Lyn Gidzinski found the back of the net with 4:40 left in the 1st. Over the remaining 4:00, Stetson rattled off four straight goals, highlighted by Gidzinski’s second of the game at the 1:50 mark. In the 2nd, the Blue Hose (1-3) got on the board on a goal at the 13:51 mark, but the Stetson offense proved to be too much for the Presbyterian defense as it scored four more times, with Jordyn Humphrey notching a hattrick by halftime and the Hatters leading 10-2.

Out of the half, the Hatters continued to pour it on in the 3rd as Jacklyn LavoieSaige Roe and Kate Johnson all found the back of the Blue Hose net within the first five minutes of the quarter to give Stetson a 13-3 lead. The Hatters offense cooled off a little in the 4th as the Blue Hose netted two straight goals at the 8:47 mark and 4:24 mark, but the Hatters were not finished as Georgia Goering and Jessica Duggan capped off the 16-4 win with a goal each over the final 4:00 of the contest.

Humphrey finished the day with a team-high four goals while four other Hatters, Paglino, Lavoie, Gidzinski and Isabella Fernandez all finished with two each. Graduate goalkeeper Kiera McCarthy only allowed two goals and made seven saves on the way to her second win of the year.

The Stetson lacrosse team will be back in action on March 7 at noon as the Hatters host East Carolina University for a Monday matinee.
