Tampa Men: McAnaney and White lead #2 Tampa to victory over #20 Colorado Mesa

TAMPA, FL. – The No. 2 ranked University of Tampa Spartans men’s lacrosse extend their win streak to seven with a win over Colorado Mesa University

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Final: No. 2 Tampa 15, No. 20 Colorado Mesa 12

Records: Tampa Spartans (7-0), Colorado Mesa Mavericks (5-2)

Location: Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex  || Tampa, FL

HOW IT HAPPENED:

FIRST QUARTER

Tampa would get off to a slow start in the first minute of the game, as Colorado Mesa would get on the board within the first minute. Colin White would be assisted by Nick Papa and get the Spartans on the board with a quick response. Not long after Ethan Paduch would give the Spartans the lead. Both teams would trade goals in the last two minutes of the quarter.

4:00 – Ethan Paduch, unassisted

1:07 – Ethan Paduch, assisted by Harry Kilkowski

Score: 3-3 Tied

SECOND QUARTER

The Mavericks would strike first once again to get things started in the second, as a slashing penalty later in the quarter would put the Spartans a man up. The Spartans would take advantage as Kilkowski would find White to even the score. Another man up opportunity for the Spartans would end with a Kellen Hoke goal putting Tampa up one with just about five minutes left in the quarter. Both teams would score once more before the end of the half.

THIRD QUARTER

Once again Colorado Mesa would start the half off first with a goal in the first 13 seconds of the second half, none of this would phase the Spartans however. Not even a minute later Miller would extend the lead once again for the Spartans, as both teams would go back and forth exchanging goals until the teams would be tied once again. Until a McAnaney solo goal would start a Spartan flurry of three goals in quick succession.

FOURTH QUARTER

The fourth quarter would be much of the same, both teams going toe to toe as Colorado Mesa would begin to chase down the lead from Tampa, whenever the Mavericks would get closer, the Spartans would end their hopes of a late comeback with a goal of their own. McAnaney would get the final say as he would end all hopes of a Mavericks comeback with two minutes remaining.

  • Hunter Turner recorded a team high 5 ground balls
  • All of McAnaney’s shots would be on target
