BOX SCORE

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Tampa women’s lacrosse defeats Mercy on the road to get back in win column.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Tampa’s offense came out firing to start the game. Cece Colombo found Sarah Hinkle off a pass to open up the scoring. Four minutes later, Allie Peebles would tack on a goal while the team was a man down to increase the Spartans lead to two. Peebles would strike again just over a minute later to put the Spartan’s ahead by three off of a free position shot. Isabel McGarvey would score her first goal of the season and as a Spartan to put Tampa out in front by four. With just a little over six minutes to go in the first quarter Tampa would see the script flip as Mercy would go on to score five unanswered goals. Leah Hansen would score an unassisted goal to get the Mavericks on the board and later on Sydney Corley would add another to cut the Spartan’s lead to two.

Mercy would continue to apply pressure scoring the first three goals in the second quarter to give them its first lead of the game. For much of the second and third quarter the game would continue to go back and forth. Cece Colombo scored her first goal of the game and ninth on the season to nod the score at five. Tampa would finally regain the lead with just over a minute left in the third quarter after a Hinkle goal and Tampa would never look back. The Spartan’s would gain momentum and continue to pour it on scoring the game’s next four goals to lead the Mavericks by five. Mercy would fight back and eventually cut the lead to two but would not be enough as Tampa would prevail picking up its third win of the season.

Stat of the Game – Isabel McGarvey scored her first goal as a Spartan.
