Casey’s Letter to Florida Lacrosse Fans

August 27, 2018   To my Fans and Friends in the Florida lacrosse family, From my earliest days on the field, the risks and rewards of facing a new challenge – personal or professional – have always driven me to explore new horizons and write new chapters. Today, I am writing to let you know that I have accepted the position of Director of Player Development with Team ONE Lacrosse, the premiere lacrosse club in Illinois. Working with an outstanding team of players and coaches, my focus will range from on field coaching and player assessment to curriculum development. Team ONE’s passion for maximizing potential and creating a rock solid foundation for both life and lacrosse is truly exciting, and I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead for my family and me in Chicago. But saying good-bye is never easy, and Florida holds such a special place in my heart that I know I am going to miss it, and all of you, tremendously. When I was a kid playing lacrosse in my backyard in Carthage NY with my brothers and neighborhood friends, I dreamed of one day achieving great moments in this sport as both a player and coach. But I never imagined all those dreams would not only come true, but that reality would be even sweeter.  Here in Florida, in front of and inspired by so many of you, I can look back on a career that included an MVP season with the NLL Orlando Titans (2010) and the final three seasons of my MLL career (2014-16) including an MVP season (2014) with the Florida Launch. And on the coaching front, it was my distinct pleasure to work with the students and staffs across the state on the high school (St. Andrews and North Broward Prep) and college (Jacksonville University) levels. But the times I will most cherish, and which I particularly want to say thanks, will always be the opportunities I had to meet and work with players, coaches, parents and fans as I traveled the state extensively conducting clinics and introducing players to the game through SPEED Lacrosse. These are the friends and fans I will miss the most. It has been said that young athletes don’t need critics, they need role models. My hope is that in some small but lasting way, I was able to inspire players to maximum effort and regardless of where the game of lacrosse takes them, that those players never lose touch with the unique sense of community that lies at the heart of our great sport. And I hope these players remember, what you are as a person is far more important than what you are as a lacrosse player. Thank you, Florida. Goodbye, good health and good luck.
