Complete List of Florida Kids on D1 Men’s Rosters!

After an exhaustive search of every Division I program in the country I have compiled the complete list of Florida kids who made a roster this season.  There are a number of IMG grads who do not appear on this list, as I can’t tell from most college biographies whether they were Florida-raised or not, so if any of you were, let me know and I’ll add you to this! Leading the list is last year’s Final 5 Tewaaraton Trophy finalist Jared Bernhardt of Maryland and Lake Brantley.  It would really be something for the entire state to be proud of if he repeats that feat and maybe goes further too! There was also one player from our past I had kind of forgotten about since he was an 8th grade star at St. Edward’s, but then moved out of state, but Ross Pridemore is now a sophomore at Loyola, so I added him too. Christian Tomei is being red-shirted by Ohio State this year, and we received that news fairly recently; he is still listed on the roster but that seems to be the final decision. Yale NCAA Title Holder! Should anyone feel motivated to do this for the Women’s D1 rosters, feel free to do so and I’ll publish that too! Some interesting facts about this: Only 14 of the 76 names are seniors and we have a lot of D1 commits already for next season so there’s a good chance the total will grow Ponte Vedra leads with 11 players.  The rest are pretty well spread out.  I believe Oak Hall is second with 5. Unfortunately, as with any other sport, attrition takes a toll.  Some big names from our high school past either have had their D1 careers cut short by injury or just gave up the sport, and a number of others who started in the D1 world have transferred to D2/3 and club programs, and have fallen off this list. And that always means that you have to be careful how you pick your college, because there are no guarantees in this sport OR life.
Author’s Note:  If there is someone who wants to be an intern for us at FLN as a resume enhancer, please get in touch with me.  I would love to have someone go through the college D1 box scores each week and prepare a list of the accomplishments of these kids for a weekly recap.  Goalies if they play – their stats, Goals, assists, faceoff percentages, ground balls, etc.  It’s basically a ‘grunt’ job! But oh so rewarding when you are able to put on your resume or college application an internship for the nationally-renowned site of Florida Lacrosse News!  And if you are an aspiring player looking to get recruited, please know that most, if not all, D1 coaches, monitor us! Well, at least I hope they do . . .
