UF: Gators set to Start Conference Play Against the Bearcats

Florida looks to begin another undefeated season in the American Athletic Conference

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The 10th-ranked Florida lacrosse team is set to open American Athletic Conference play on Sunday, taking on the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Opening draw is slated for 11 a.m. at Nippert Stadium.

Florida has won both the regular season and the conference tournament championship in each of the two complete seasons of the AAC thus far (2019, 2021) and has gone undefeated in the AAC since joining in 2019.

The Gators and the Bearcats are meeting for the 11th time in program history, with Florida holding the 10-0 series advantage. The last time these two teams faced off, UF topped Cincinnati 19-6 in the First Round of the 2021 AAC Tournament in Gainesville, Fla.

In its last contest, Florida surged past the Mercer Bears 19-5 in Macon, Ga., while Cincinnati defeated Robert Morris 12-8 in its last game.

Scouting the Bearcats

  • Cincinnati currently sits at 6-6 in the 2022 campaign, with wins over Gardner Webb, Kent State, Akron, Central Michigan, Butler and Robert Morris
  • Florida holds the 11-0 series advantage, including a 3-0 record in Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Through the first 12 games of the season, Kylie Nause (45g, 1a), Ava Goeller (34g, 9a), Elizabeth Murphy (9g, 15a), Grace Wehland (11g, 5a), Alyssa Adams (13g, 1a) and Kyle Gioia (11g, 2a) are leading the way offensively
  • Dani Mlkvy, Goeller, Sophia Finotti and Nause are leading the way in the draw circle for the Bearcats, posting 47, 37, 23 and 19 draws, respectively
  • On the defensive end, Mlkvy has recorded a team-high 16 caused turnovers, followed by 12 from Goeller, Finotti and Tori Accardo
  • Sophie O’Brien has seen a majority of minutes in the cage for Cincinnati, posting 78 saves with a .350 save percentage in her 637:13
