BABSON PARK, Fla. (April 2, 2023) – In what was its final home game of the season, the Webber International University women’s lacrosse team played host to No. 10 SCAD-Savannah for Senior Day on Saturday morning. The Warriors fought hard from start to finish but fell short, 17-11, in a competitive game on their home turf.

The Bees (6-5 overall, 3-1 SUN) fired off 39 shots compared to the 21 of the Warriors (6-5, 1-3). However, 15 saves from Jordyn Davidson helped to keep Webber in touching distance throughout the game.

SCAD jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, the first two of which came less than 30 seconds apart. The Warriors scored their first goal thanks to an individual effort by Madison Hamilton with 4:30 left in the first quarter, making it 3-1. The Bees scored twice more before Hamilton once again took matters into her own hands and netted goal number two. Webber trailed 6-2 heading into the second quarter as SCAD continued its offensive pressure, scoring the first two goals of the new period.

The Warriors then cut the deficit back to four after back-to-back goals. Kaitlyn Patterson netted her first of the day on an assist by Makayla Senter followed by another solo-goal by Hamilton. The Bees scored once again before Sydney Britton and Bryce Gerber both tallied their first goals of the day as well, bringing Webber to within three at 9-6. Misfortune struck the Warriors as a shot was well saved by Davidson but rebounded straight back to a SCAD-attacker who quickly shot and scored as time expired in the half.

Patterson scored the first goal of the second half less than 30 seconds in, however, the Bees responded by scoring three-in-a-row to extend their lead back to six. Webber did not give in as Gerber then assisted a goal to Ayame Macedo, her fourth of the season. The Warriors scored twice more through Gerber and Senter to cut the lead to four, but SCAD fired back with two of its own before the end of the third. The fourth quarter was low-scoring with just a goal each as the Bees did well to protect their lead and seal the victory.

Hamilton and Gerber led the way offensively with three points each. Hamilton tallied her second hat-trick of the season while Gerber recorded two goals and an assist. Patterson netted twice on the day and Senter contributed with a goal and an assist each. Patterson also led the team in draw controls with five followed by Hamilton with four and Gerber with three. Gerber and Reyanna Troupe both led the Warriors in caused turnovers with two while Alia Loydd ended with a team-high five ground balls.

Next up, the Warriors will match up against their Crooked Lake rivals, Warner University, for the second time this season but first in a conference setting. The game is set for Saturday, April 8th at 1 p.m. in Lake Wales, Fla.
