Congratulations to Lauren on her college choice and good luck in the future!
|Windermere High School
|University of Alabama in Huntsville
Why did you choose this college?
|There are a multitude of reasons I picked UAH. But some of the most important ones are the education, team atmosphere and location/city. UAH has a great kinesiology program and I’m going to school to get a good education, so being academically challenged and having a good program is really important to me. I also really loved the girls and the coaches, they were so kind and welcoming and I felt like I belonged. I loved Huntsville! Downtown is so beautiful and there are so many thing to do in the city. I always had people tell me when you find the right school you get this feeling that you can’t describe. At first when I heard this I didn’t really believe it, but then I went to UAH and I felt that. It’s hard to explain, but I instantly fell in love with everything. I can’t wait to see what the future brings!
What Advice Would You Give Those Starting the Recruiting Process?
|Definitely explore your options, finding the right school that fits you academically is really important . You’re a student athlete, the student comes first. My coach always said to me to use the “broken leg rule”. Meaning if you’re injured will you still love the school and the city? I definitely feel this when I visit UAH and Huntsville!
Who Would You Like to Thank for Getting You to Here?
|There are so many people who have helped me get to the place I am today. But the big ones I want to thank are my Mom and Dad, Coach Ann Bomleny, Coach Lauren Dean, Coach Julia Dennis, and Coach Fran. Also my amazing teammates on both my HS and Club team, they’ve been so supportive and excited for me. I’m so appreciative of everything they’ve done to help me and shape me into the amazing person I am on and off the field!
What are your first memories of the sport?
|I first started playing lacrosse Fall of 7th grade. I remember the exact date I first stepped onto that field in Apopka, it was September 5th. I saw a sign on the side of the road to join a lacrosse team and I told my parents I wanted to try it. I knew absolutely nothing about lacrosse and now here I am!
What is Your Favorite Memory From Your High School Career?
|My favorite memory from my High School Career was as a freshman starter on
varsity, we beat our schools rival, West Orange High School, in season and then again during districts for the first time in school history!
What is Your Stick Brand? And Why?
|The stick brand I use is gait! I have the Whip and I really love that stick. It has a really good pocket, great release point and is amazing for the draw!
Do You Watch College & Pro Games and What Are You Watching for to Make You a Better Player?
|Yes, I love watching College and Pro lacrosse! It’s so interesting to see the speed of the game and the similarities to the way my club team plays. I love watching how they move and think, as a lacrosse player myself I think about what I would’ve done in there place and see if they do it or not! I also think you can learn a lot from watching the girls play on TV and in person.
What’s Your Go-To Meal After a Game?
|I love getting Chick-fil-a after I play!
What’s the One Thing Your Teammates Would be Surprised to Know About You?
|One thing I think my teammates would be surprised to know about me is that I’ve never had any pets before.
