HOW IT HAPPENED

The Jacksonville offense waited no time to create a lead for themselves. Sophomore Maddy Orefice scored the game’s first goal for the Dolphins at 12:36. Senior Hudson Gentile notched a goal of her own after crashing through the 8-meter to receive the ball and hit net. Shortly after, Queens answered with its first shot of the game to show the score 2-1. The Dolphins went on to score four of the next six goals to increase their lead to 6-3 over the Lions.

Junior Brianna Samuel wasted no time off the draw, quickly transitioning down the field to score the first goal of the second quarter. Jacksonville went on an 8-2 run against Queens, Dolphins Craft, Elms, Gentile, and junior Jenna Peed, all notched goals to extend the gap to 10 goals, earning them a running clock to end the half 15-5.

The Dolphins shut out the Lions in the third, junior goalie Paige Pagano took the net and didn’t allow Queens to get a single shot off on net. Elms, Gentile, and Hobson all earned their third goals of the day, Craft notched her fifth goal to show the score 22-5.

Senior Lauren Ellis set a program record for most draw-control wins in a single game with 14. The previous record was 13, set by Rachel Hannon in 2012. Jacksonville went unanswered for five goals in the fourth, with shots from fifth-year Caroline Peterson, sophomores Jenelle Bennardo and Alex Kulinski, Freshman Ainsley Scruggs, and junior Alexis Grant. In the final 16 seconds, Queens scored one final goal to make the final score 27-6.

“I am thrilled for these girls to set a record for second most goals scored in a game,”  said head coach Tara Singleton.  “The girls have been putting in quality reps and taking care of themselves prior to the next match up, we are ready to hit the drawing board.”

“It’s a surreal feeling to set a new record for most draw control wins in a game,” said Ellis.  “Being a part of this culture and program is unbeatable.”
