#13 Tampa Handles Lynn 18-7 – Both Press Releases

  • The Lynn University Fighting Knights took an early lead of 2-0 over Tampa.
  • Jake Mosher McGraw had the first goal for Tampa at 3:48.
  • With 1:40 left in the period, Andrew Kew scored his first goal of the game to tie the game for Tampa at 2-2.
  • Lynn had the final goal of the period to take a 3-2 lead.
2nd Period
  • Tampa opened the scoring for the period with Mosher McGraw’s second unassisted goal of the game, less than two minutes into play to tie the game.
  • The Fighting Knights took back a lead of 4-3.
  • Chris Vetter teamed up with Conor Whipple to tie the game again.
  • Whipple shoots to take the lead for Tampa, now 5-4 over Lynn.
  • Kew strikes again with an assist from Jake Huxtable to cushion the lead to two goals.
  • Lynn answers back with a goal to make it 6-5, Tampa.
3rd Period
  • The Spartans fired with a goal from Jake Schmidt, assisted by Whipple, his second of the day.
  • Kew has his third goal of the game to take a 8-5 lead.
  • Mosher McGraw also has his third goal of the game with 10:24 left in the period.
  • Bryan Wright takes advantage of a man-up situation to bring the score to 10-5 with an assist from Whipple.
4th Period
  • Whipple teams up with Matt Vetter at 11:58 to take a 11-5 lead 
  • A.J. Ferraro with help from Whipple bring the lead to 6 goals.
  • Lynn takes advantage of a man-up situation to answer back and decrease Tampa’s lead to 12-6.
  • They strike again to make it 12-7.
  • Whipple teams up with Wright to make it a six-goal game again.
  • Kew has his fourth goal of the game with an assist from Whipple.
  • The duo strikes again for back to back goals and assists to take a 17-7 lead.
  • The final goal of the game comes from Bryan Uva to make it a 18-7 victory over Lynn University.
INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Whipple led all Spartans in points with seven assists and four goals.
  • Kew, the nation’s leader in goals per game, had five goals and
  • Wright added two goals, as C. Vetter, Ferraro, and Schmidt each had one goal.
  • A.J. Arnold started in goal and had six saves.
  • Sam Watts won 14 of 24 faceoffs and had 5 groundballs.
  • Marty Heyn led Tampa with three caused turnovers.
  • Bryan Uva had his second career goal with one ground ball and one caused turnover.

A scoring drought from the Fighting Knights in the third quarter however allowed the 13th-ranked Spartans to create separation en route to an 18-7 Sunshine State Conference victory over the Blue and White on a hot Saturday afternoon. BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Lynn didn’t win the faceoff battle for the first time this season. 
  • Tampa held Lynn to a season-low 26 shots for the game. Lynn averages over 40 shots per game.
  • Urso has nine goals over the last three games and 19 points over the past four.
  • Lynn had less turnovers than the Spartans.
  • Tampa is ranked No. 13 in this week’s USILA Coaches Poll and No. 11 by US Lacrosse.
