The Central-North Bracket features Districts 9 – 16.  This bracket is going to be very interesting for two reasons.  One, as always, it features two of the state’s top programs in Lake Highland Prep and Lake Brantley.  But the addition of the Tampa area teams brings a solid element of the unknown.  Longtime readers of the site will remember the transition of the South Florida clubs into the FHSAA.  Both Jupiter and Benjamin did quite well right out of the box.  Now we are looking for teams like Wharton and Plant to give last year’s Tampa area powerhouse, Tampa Jesuit, a solid run.  But nobody really knows until they take the field. These two districts, 15 and 16, have ten teams which are new to FHSAA competition.  In District 15 Jesuit and Berkley Prep are the only two teams who played FHSAA last season. Jesuit will miss the scoring of Ryan Brady (W&L), but an even bigger, faster Noah Menendez (Tampa) returns for his senior season.  Menendez is a tremendously fast F/O Middie who is a threat every time he touches the ball.  He will be dishing a few off to junior attackman Stephano  Mastro.  Jesuit will be getting big competion this year from Berkley Prep and Plant High School. Plant High School’s senior middie Julian Taylor (Roanoke) and his younger brother, sophomore Bennett Taylor (Army), anchor a young and talented team. Berkley Prep junior Nick Ludy has been turning heads since his freshman season and should have a huge year.  He is joined by Teddy Mortonson and George Lewis, two other standouts at Berkley Prep and this team should be the most competitive in it’s history.  New head coach, Craig Lepain, is looking forward to guiding this young team through a changing landscape in Hillsborough County.  “The Berkeley Lacrosse program is looking forward to a great season and the Districts are up for grabs this year. ” Alonso was 14-4 last season and split games with Plant.  George Steinbrenner HS, Jefferson, and Robinson High School make up the rest of this seven team district. District 16 Wharton might be the front runner in this district.  One interesting side story, however, is that one of their top players last year is not eligible to play due to FHSAA rules.   Zach Salazar attends the Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate School and under the Gulf Coast League rules was allowed to play for Wharton, the school whose district he lives in.  Junior Nate Bleckley, however, should provide plenty of offensive fire power to get the job done.  Defensively they will lean heavily on junior Devin Cannata.  Wharton only lost four games last year but two of then were at the hands of District 15’s Plant High School. The folks at Newsome High School certainly have reason to believe that they will take this District.  They have some top shelf talent in junior middie Ross Patrick and goalie Colby Blackburn.   Good looking sophomore Ian Lukas on the attack is a young talent to keep an eye on this year. All Saints Academy in Winter Haven has been quietly doing the heavy lifting of growing the game in Polk County.  They have developed some good players like Nick Wegman, Hunter Bennett, David Lee, and Tavis and Dylan Methot.  All Saints has been at it for several years now.  In fact, they once had a little eighth grade phenom named Coner Whipple playing at All Saints before he went onto St. Andrews and now University of Tampa. There are five other schools stacked up in this eight team district.  Durant (Plant City), Freedom (Tampa), Tampa Bay Tech, Tampa Catholic, and Tampa Prep and we don’t know what to expect.  We know it will be exciting!
