District 17 Five Brevard County Schools comprise District 17.  It took a ton of work by the Friends of Brevard Lacrosse to bring lacrosse to the county.  This District has some pretty evenly matched teams.  There are three teams that have a real chance to win this District Championship.  Last season Viera beat Merrit Island twice and lost to Holy Trinity.  Holy Trinity and Merrit Island split one when each, and Holy Trinity beat Viera the only time they met. We think Holy Trinity holds the edge with a trio of seniors who are all four year varsity starters. They will be expected  to step up and lead this year.   They are Charlie Barger, Trey Ville and Michael Leary (Adams State). Junior goalie, Matthew Scott, is probably the best goalie in Brevard County.  He has a great deal of experience and will command the defensive half of the field. On the shake up of the district Coach Leary said, “With our district cut in half, we had the opportunity to schedule games against some of the more mature programs around the state which can only help us become a better program. Really looking forward to getting started next week.” Rockledge and Satellite High School round out this district. District 18

Melbourne Central Catholic is several seasons ahead of the rest of this district.  This one will be all MCC for now.  MCC is in a bit of a rebuilding phase as this year’s roster is only sporting five seniors and four juniors as opposed to twelve sophomores.  They may not have the experience to get too far but they should get out of the districts. One school who is looking to get things headed in the right direction this year is Sebastian River High School.  Although they are coming off of a 1-14 season, second year head coach Sean Stinger is only looking forward.  Senior Middie Joe Moltz returns after a 2013 season that saw him lead the team in goals, assists, and ground balls.  He finished they year with Honorable Mention All District honors and will be ready to even bigger things this year.  Caleb Brunicardi returns to handle the F/O duties and was the second leading scorer last season.  Senior defenseman, Charles Kost, is a three year starter and will anchor the Shark’s defense this year. Looking even farther ahead Coach Stinger is excited about the launch of north Indian River County’s first feeder program at Sebastian River Middle School. Melbourne High School will enter their second season, Eau Gallie and West Shore High School round out this district.
