via press release   BOSTON (May 4, 2017) – Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier outdoor professional lacrosse league, announced today that the 2017 MLL Collegiate Draft presented by Cascade Lacrosse will be held at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday, May 28 at Toby Keith’s Bar and Grill in Foxboro, Mass. on the campus of Patriot Place and will be broadcast live on Lax Sports Network. The 2017 NCAA Men’s and Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championships will conclude at Gillette Stadium that same weekend. For the first time since 2010, the draft will return to its original timing at the conclusion of the NCAA season. From 2011 to 2016, the draft coincided with the U.S. Lacrosse Convention in January. For the first time in league history, the draft will consist of 10 rounds. It lasted eight rounds from 2010 to 2016 and five rounds from 2001 to 2009. “We cannot wait to welcome the next wave of gifted athletes into the league,” MLL Commissioner David Gross said. “Moving the draft to Memorial Day Weekend allows our fans to have the instant gratification of seeing their team draft a player and then watching that player on an MLL field shortly thereafter.” MLL is the only professional sports league that requires players to exhaust their NCAA eligibility prior to entering the draft. Lacrosse also accounts for one of the highest Graduation Success Rates (GSR) of any major sport. According to the NCAA, the most recent GSR for all Division I athletes was 82 percent. Men’s lacrosse players in that same time had a GSR of nearly 87 percent. The Florida Launch have the first-overall selection in the draft and have three picks total in the first round, including No. 4 and No. 8. Last year, the Blaze selected Myles Jones out of Duke with the top selection.
