Editor’s Note: due to the stories from last week taking so much time we at FLN got backed up on submitted game results and we apologize for not posting these sooner. We really appreciate those who have volunteered their time and efforts to provide these recaps and as we continue to grow as a web site we will strive even more to ensure this doesn’t happen in the future!
Thanks to Coach Clayton Wight for sending this in!
Upset win for Cardinal Mooney last night as they beat Tampa Jesuit for the first time in school history.
After jumping out to a 10-5 lead at the half, the Cougars seemed to have the game in hand. Jesuit battled back with a strong second half and with 1:30 left, the game was tied at 12-12.
With the Tigers in possession, Cougar LSM, Brad Atwood, made a critical check on a dodging Tiger and Gunnar Grubbs was able field the loose ball. Grubbs raced it down field dumping to Tommy Vassallo who beat his defender and found the back of the net for the “go ahead” goal.
Looking to run out the final 30 seconds, the Cougars found themselves in possession of the ball again when Tommy Vassallo found Reagan Griffith alone in front of the goal for the final score.
Fun game fact: CMHS goalie Alex Sobczak took the ball coast to coast and had an assist.
Jack Koscho scored 4G/3A to lead his team and the game in scoring.
