#4 FSC Women Mocs Snake Past UT Spartans 19-6 – Both Press Releases

photo via FSC web site   FSC Press Release   TAMPA, FL – Florida Southern College women’s lacrosse scored 16 first-half goals en route to a 19-6 thrashing of Sunshine State Conference rival Tampa on Saturday at the Naimoli Athletic Complex. The No. 4 Moccasins (14-2, 3-0 SSC) reeled off their 11th-straight win of the season, and topped the Spartans (5-9, 0-2) for the fifth-straight time. HOW IT HAPPENED • Florida Southern looked as if it might be in for a fight early on as the Spartans scored the first goal of the game just over two minutes into the first half. However, the Mocs answered back with six unanswered goals and never looked back. • Kendall Kerge got the Moccasins on the board with 27:21 to go in the first half to tie the game, and Meghan O’Brien scored just 25 seconds later to give the Mocs the lead for good. Both Kerge and O’Brien would score twice more in the first half, and Shannon Mazza and Casey O’Brien each scored twice to give the Mocs a 16-4 halftime lead. • Florida Southern tacked on three more goals in the second half to extend its winning streak to 11 games, the second-best winning streak in program history. • The Moccasins outshot the Spartans 32-18, won 22-of-26 draw controls, went 4-of-6 on free-position shots, and completed 8-of-8 clear attempts. INSIDE THE NUMBERS • Florida Southern improved to 5-0 all-time against Tampa. The Moccasins also won their 12th-straight Sunshine State Conference game, and are undefeated all-time in conference play since the SSC began sponsoring the sport in 2015. • Meghan O’Brien recorded her 10th hat trick of the season, while Kerge scored at least three goals for the eighth time this year. Eight different Moccasins scored at least two goals in the win. • Taylor Gillis and Alanna Zambetti each played one half in goal for the Mocs. Gillis finished with two saves on the day wile Zambetti made seven stops. Seven different Moccasins tallied an assist, with Emily Santoli tallying a team-best two assists.   • The Spartans had the first goal of the game from Claire Swanson at 27:53.
  • The Mocs answered back with six goals to take the lead.
  • Freshman, Maggie Gladden at 17:29 has the second Spartan goal of the game to decrease Southern’s lead to 6-2.
  • Florida Southern responded to make it 7-2.
  • Swanson has her second goal of the game with an assist from Amanda Rom to make it 7-3.
  • The Mocs answered back with nine goals.
  • Amanda Voges had her first goal of the game with an assist from Rom with two minutes left in the period. Florida Southern led 16-4.

  • Natalie Carraway has the first goal of the period at 27:08, Mocs leading 16-5.
  • Florida Southern had their first goal of the period at 21:20.
  • Amanda Rom had her first goal of the game, converting a free position attempt, Mocs leading 17-6.
  • The Mocs responded back with two goals.

  • Swanson had two goals and tallied one draw control, groundball and caused turnover.
  • Carraway, Gladden,  Rom and Voges each had one goal.
  • Caroline Forester led the team in draw controls with two.
