West Orange came into the Tuesday evening matchup against Timber Creek as an “also considered” in the FLN Top 20 Media Poll. They feel to the hands of an underrated but very talented Timber Creek squad. Timber Creek benefited from multiple goals game from Nate Gillan (4G, 1A), Preston Hopkins (4G,1A), Jake Sousa (2G), Andrew Pineda (2G) and help from EJ Wheeler (1G,1A) and Sean Johnson (3A) to lock down the 13-9 win at West Orange.
Timber Creek’s face off combination of Sean Johnson and Andrew Pineda along with excellent ground ball management by Evan Walker, from his long pole middie position, allowed Creek to control the pace and shot selection by their attack early and often. Timber Creek jumped out to an early 5-1 lead on goals by Gillan (2) , Hopkins (1) , Sousa (1) , Pineda (1) and Gillan again in the 1st. The second quarter found much of the same as Hopkins put three more in the back of the net and two others scored for Timber Creek before the buzzer to end the half. The TC scoring took center stage but it should be noted that Liam Mullins had a very strong game and contributed 4 goals for West Orange, most of it in the second half.
Timber Creek got a very strong game from their keeper Hunter Loper (12 saves) and very physical defense from their long poles of Brandon Brinkmeier, Braden Casata, Tyler Gunning and Evan Walker to ensure that West Orange never really threatened in the contest. The talented mid field of Timber Creek’s Johnson, Grenga, Sousa and Pineda swiftly ran the transition game very efficiently after saves by Loper most of the evening.
Coach Trey Gordon utilized the later stages of the game to garner field time for his roster. In the end, Timber Creek owned it 13-9 with a very convincing win against a quality opponent. Things get tougher as the schedule progresses, as Timber Creek entertains Lake Nona at home Wednesday evening and faces a tough Winter Park squad on the road to end the week on Friday evening.
