Senior Chase Skorupa led the American Heritage/Delray Stallions to a dramatic come from behind victory over a strong Columbus Catholic team 9-8.
Skorupa scored the game winner with under two minutes to go to give him 3 goals and 3 assists, while freshman goalie Justin Lugo was spectacular in posting 15 saves.
Columbus roared out to a 6-1 lead after the first quarter, but the stingy defense, led by Parker Sargent, held the Explorers scoreless for over two quarters. Sargent would end the day with 5 ground balls and 5 take-aways.
The Stallions kept chipping away and went into the half-time break down 6-3 with a man-up opportunity to start the second half. Heritage capitalized quickly bringing the score to 6-4 just seconds into the third quarter.
The momentum had shifted with help from the freshman attack duo of Dante Moore (2g, 2a) and Colin Sypeck (1g, 3a) as Heritage tied the game at 6-6 in the third.
Columbus came back scoring the next two goals taking the lead back at 8-6 but the young stallions would not give up, scoring the next 3 goals to give legendary coach Jeff Goldberg the biggest victory in school history. Coach Goldberg kept his players in the moment and letting them know at every break they could win this game if they kept fighting and working hard, which they all did. The Stallions got the victory 9-8.
