Andrew and Jennifer Bolger to host Benefit Tournament for Mikey Stolzenberg

A great benefit tournament is taking place – “Pockets & Sockets” on May 14th, 2011 at Delray Sports Complex open to all U11-HS teams.
Many of you have seen Mikey smiling on the sidelines, but have you ever seen him holding his lacrosse stick and shooting at the goal? Mikey Stolzenberg is an 11 year old that lost both his hands and feet to an illness a few years ago. His courage, strength, perseverance and attitude are beyond extraordinary. This child has faced more adversity than many of us will ever know, yet he continues to smile and is a true inspiration to us all.
We are asking for you to help spread the “Pockets & Sockets” word…we are hoping that kids will create their own teams and/or their coaches will organize the players into 7 on 7 teams. You do not need team uniforms, as we will supply each player with a Pockets & Sockets reversible. Each team will be guaranteed at least 3 games and we will have lots of giveaways and raffles. The cost is $950.00 per team (if you break that down..it comes out to a team of 16 to less than $60.00 – for a day of lacrosse, a tournament reversible and a 100% donation to the Michael Stolzenberg Rehabilitative Trust). We will have both a middle school and high school division.
I know that as a lacrosse community we always try and give back in so many ways…whether it is donating old lacrosse equipment, making a donation to a team for expenses, helping coach a team, lining a field, or making a donation at the gate to watch a lacrosse game. Many of us support national fundraisers and campaigns as well….this benefit lacrosse tournament is to actually help one of our own South Florida athletes…Â
We are looking forward to this being an annual event, filled with lots of lacrosse, new friendships and most importantly fun –  with one goal in mind – to help this remarkable  11 year old boy be fully independent; by being  fitted with the newest prosthetics available (as he frequently needs replacements as he continues to grow), and with the long term goal of being the recipient of a new and innovative surgery-a  double hand transplant, which would require countless hours of occupational therapy after the surgery. These luxuries are unfortunately not covered under insurance.
If you know of a business or family that would like to be a sponsor or simply donate to Mikey’s trust…please do not hesitate to contact us. We have some sponsor opportunities still available – I could not think of a more charitable way to advertise!!
If you have any questions or would like to register a team please email us at pocketsandsockets@gmail.com. You can also find us on Facebook at pockets and sockets.
