Anthony Alfonso Headed to Play at the Next Level Despite the Lack of a Varsity Program at Port Charlotte

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
Anthony Alfonso plays club lacrosse at Port Charlotte High School in Port Charlotte Florida.  They have been trying for over four years to get lacrosse as a sanctioned varsity sport at Port Charlotte to no avail.  It has become clear to Anthony that he will complete is fourth year of lacrosse at Port Charlotte without playing in the FHSAA. Alfonso says that with little support from the school and with no other clubs in the  county the lacrosse club has had a tough time surviving.  This struggle has caused the team to travel two or more hours to play programs in similar circumstances on the weekends, sometimes playing two games a day.   However, Anthony  would not be deterred. “I had not even heard of lacrosse until the summer before my freshman year! I have grown to love this sport and everything about it, it has change my life and my family’s life in so many ways. As a dedicate lacrosse player I have first hand seen the positive affects it can bring to people who play with passion and intensity.” With the help of great coaching and a lot of hard work he was offered the opportunity to play DII ball at Brevard College in NC.  He signed his NLI last week and is ready to continue a journey which he says, “was unimaginable just four years ago.”
