Gainesville, Fla. – Junior attacker Ashley Bruns (Ellicott City, Md.) was named ALC Offensive Player of the Week this afternoon following her outstanding performances this weekend against Siena and Detroit. It marks the second ALC weekly honor for the Gators this season, following Nora Barry’s (Marcellus, N.Y.) Rookie of the Week honor last week. Bruns earned Offensive Player of the Week once before, on Mar. 23, 2011, and was the ALC Rookie of the Week three times in 2010. Kitty Cullen (Rockville, Md.) is the only other Gator to have earned the offensive weekly honor, doing so three times last season. Bruns scored 12 goals and three assists in two games to earn a 15-point weekend. The All-American attacker scored her 100th career goal against Siena on Friday, making her just the second Gator to do so, and went on to break the school single-game records for goals and points, recording eight goals on just nine shots and 11 total points. Bruns followed her record-breaking performance with a team-leading four goals against Detroit on Sunday. Additionally, she recorded four ground balls and a draw control on the weekend. Johns Hopkins junior Alyssa Kildare was named ALC Defensive Player of the Week and Penn State midfielder Tatum Coffey earned ALC Rookie of the Week. Kildare manned a Blue Jays defense that allowed just 13 goals over two games this week. She led the team with three ground balls in the 18-8 victory over Mount St. Mary’s, then repeated with three ground balls while adding two caused turnovers and a draw control in the 20-5 win over Denver. Coffey had a breakout week for the Nittany Lions, scoring six goals and earning seven draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover in two victories on the week. The midfielder scored two goals against Duquesne in Penn State’s 16-5 victory, then led the team with four goals and seven draw controls in the close 14-10 win at Lafayette. The Gators are back in action Saturday, when they host No. 12 Syracuse at Dizney Stadium. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
