thanks to Coach Buikus for this press release   AMU Lacrosse Signs Charlotte County Standout, Alexis Smich for 2016 Season   6/12/15 AVE MARIA, Fla. – – Head Coach Kelly Buikus is pleased to announce the signing of midfielder, Alexis Smich from Port Charlotte, Florida. Smich was a founding member of the Port Charlotte High School lacrosse team where she saw the program develop from club to varsity status under head coach, Joanne Parker. A two time captain for the Pirates, Smich was played on the All-Star team her freshman, junior and senior seasons and was also a two-time all-conference player. Smich was named to the Gulf Coast team in the spring of 2014, where she played in the US Lacrosse National School Girls Tournament. Smich scored 28 goals in 2014; and 59 goals in her senior season. Smich intends to study Exercise Science while at Ave Maria. Smich began her club lacrosse career with Naples Lacrosse Club and Lax Maniax before finishing with Braveheart SWFL. “Alexis is a great addition to our incoming class. She has great field vision and will provide great depth and athleticism in the midfield. Alexis has played high level club lacrosse and will bring experience to our young team. I’m really excited that Alexis has decided to study and play lacrosse at AMU”, said Kelly Buikus. Smich decided to come to Ave Maria because she felt that it was a great fit for her academically, spiritually and athletically and that she will be pushed both in the classroom and on the field. “I believe that AMU will give me a good foundation and education which will help me succeed in life. Also, I will be surrounded by a great group of people who share my passion in my faith. I love that AMU lacrosse is a new and growing program which I have the opportunity to be a part of,” states Smich when asked why she decided to sign with Ave Maria.
