Barron Collier and Ponte Vedra

Here we go with one I’ve been waiting to see. With about 9 minutes gone we are tied at 1-1 Barron killing off a two-minute penalty on Olivia Ferrucci. BC goalie making two big stops Halfway through the first and Vero leads 3-1 BC scores twice and we are tied at 3 with 9:51 left BC’s offense is finding looks in front with Ferrucci feeding from behind Abby Shields playing on ball too for Vero With 5:37 left BC has a man (oops, ‘woman’) up with the score still 3-3.  Right now BC has to be thrilled with the pace of the game as Vero has not pressured too much. Biederharn with the go ahead goal on a curl from behind and a low left corner shot. Huge save by McDonogh on the doorstep and after a yellow on BC Biedenharn again isolates but Healle Chomo makes a big save. But Vero comes back with two more, one on a Shields dodge from left wing to the middle and that is answered by BC and we are at the half with Vero leading 6-4. The first five minutes of the second half looks to be critical for BC to keep within contact.   22:08 to go and BC gets the first goal of the half to make it 6-5 Potentially huge Shields unassisted with a spin left and a high bounce shot at 21:30 for 7-5 Ferrucci solo after picking up the faceoff and going down left wing, behind the net and coming out the right, low left corner at 21:11. BC wins the faceoff BC ties it up at 7 with 19:54 left as Browne scores on the left crease ftrom Ferrucci Ferrucci off the restart at 19:21 and BC takes the lead.   ——-   Thanks a lot Microsoft, you  ***** My computer decides to REBOOT for a Windows Update as I am on the field asking what the heck was said that got Olivia Ferrucci kicked out of thye game for a second yellow card. Spoke to those on the field who indicated that it was pretty innocuous . . . in the heat of battle you HAVE to give the player some latitude!!! ———–   So, thanks to our Twitter feeds you can see what Microsoft ‘unsaved’ of my reports: BC taking the two goal lead on the advantage at 10:53 on Ferrucci’s restart Gabby Sposato making it 9-8 Then Megan Gorman ties it up for Vero with 5:27   Then The Call Dear Refs, you are NOT THE GAME. Dammit . . . And one of the yellow cards was given on the bench   ——— Sorry for the gap here, went down to the field after the game to talk with the coaches and by the time we got back to the booth the boy’s game was getting close and I couldn’t update too quickly. A four goal run to end the game after the yellow card, done as so often, by a terrific collective effort. Anyhow, congrats to Vero Beach for pulling out the game in the end.  Another championship looms tomorrow. A special group of girls . . . Abby Shields, Zan Biedenham, Megan Gorman, Hannah Palau and the rest. A winning streak in state that is just mind-boggling.   But it would have been nice to see how it would have finished if the ejection hadn’t occurred.   And for those out there that are wondering why I am harping on this, rest assured, even the fans on the Boy’s side were asking me about it after their games too. It’s the signature item of Day One . . . among the entire lacrosse community here. Even more than the St. Thomas takedown of Saint Andrew’s . . . that says something.
