Barron Collier Uses Strong Third Quarter to Overpower Gulf Coast

After driving three hours through solid rain we made it to Naples, where as you would expect, the weather was perfect.
Freshman face off middie, Sean Mahoney, won the face off for BC and the Cougars wasted no time getting the ball to sophomore Pat Mahoney for the finish and BC was up 1-0 :25 into the game.
After winning the next face off BC turned it over but Gulf Coast gave it right back as a clearing pass went out of bounds.
Barron Collier rang one off the post after almost three minutes of offensive pressure.
Bo Garrison picked up the GB and cleared the ball down field. Gulf Coast once again turned it over quickly and BC was right back in business.
BC would once again hit the post again and Gulf Coast came up with the rebound and went to work 8:30 on the clock. Gulf Coast started a little tight and they looked like they were trying to force some passes into the middle but on this possession they showed more patience.
It was Gulf Coast’s turn to hit a post and the ball went back to BC. The Cougars really settled in this time and continued to work the ball around the perimeter and look for open cutters in the middle. A BC shot ended up in the stick of Nick Jardone and he sent the Gulf Coast offense back to work.
Matt Shover was able to find Austin Miller wide open on the high wing and he had no trouble getting a blistering room and time shot into the top right corner to tie it up.
Gulf Coast won the ensuing face off and got a quick EMO but after one good shot they through the ball out of bounds and BC was able to kill the penalty.
Gulf Coast got ball back on a Nick Jardone save and began a lengthy offensive set. They really settled down but the BC defense limited them to outside shots. An outside shot was good enough for Daniel London as he took the pass from Andrew Elgin and let a low to high shot go that went just under the cross bar.
Barron Collier won the face off but could not get it into the box in time and Gulf Coast got the ball with a dangerous midfield restart. Although a typically slow whistle by the referees negated some of the advantage, Bo Garrison was still able to get off a shot that went just wide.
BC won the 2nd quarter opening face off but both teams traded turnovers over the first minute. BC got the ball and did get off a couple of high percentage shots that were turned away by Jardone who is looking solid in the goal for GC.
Almost two minutes into the second Jake Telitz got a pass, dodged twice, and got off a nifty underhand shot on his way to the ground that found the cage to tie it up.
Physical defense at both ends of the field led to more turnovers than I expected. The physical defense resulted in an EMO for BC and they made the most of it when Pat Mahoney hit the back side from X and found sophomore Connor McGraw for the go ahead goal.
The lead would not last long as Gulf Coast called a time out. Off the whistle Luke Curran hit Bo Garrison who was cutting down the string line and he tied it up for GC.
The second half started with a quick slashing flag against BC. BC chose to shut off Bo Garrison and play the man down defense 5 v 4. Daniel London was fine with that as he grabbed a Matt Shover pass in the middle and got a low underhand shot in to take the lead.
Gulf Coast would get flagged on the ensuing face off and BC would take advantage as Shaun Nash scored to tie it back up. That was followed very quickly by a Jake Telitz goal to give BC a 5-4 lead with 9:45 left in the 3rd quarter.
Barron Collier found something in the middle of that Gulf Coast defense that they could exploit. Jake Telitz got the ball again just above the crease as he was able to handle a high feed to score his hat trick goal to give BC a two goal lead.
Shenanigans began on the next face off as Gulf Coast took an ill advised penalty that resulted in and EMO for Barron Collier. Connor McGraw made them pay for the mistake and gave Barron Collier a 3 goal lead at 7-4 with 7:44 left in the third.
Some great back and forth play going end to end followed but another small mistake doomed Gulf Coast as they were flagged for offside and BC scored on the EMO to take an 8-4 lead.
Gulf Coast got flagged again on the next face off and BC has another EMO. Only a great save by Jardone kept BC from converting. After another Gulf Coast turnover he came up big again to keep the Sharks in the game.
But BC just kept the pressure on and BC scored from the middle again as they continued to exploit an opening in the heart of the Gulf Coast defense.
Gulf Coast came back after the next face and drew a flag to give themselves an EMO opportunity. They did create a great shot that caromed off the right post but were called for an infraction and turned it over.
Barron Collier took advantage of the quick restart and the Zach Woods made a long outlet pass and the ball ultimately found Connor Molloy unguarded on the doorstep for the 10-4 lead.
Jake Telitz then got his fourth of the night on an outside shot.
Andrew Elgin answered for Gulf Coast just before time expired in the third quarter to close it to 11-5.
The fourth quarter began with a great face off win for Sean Mahoney. This kid is fast.
Pat Mahoney ended up scoring the 12th for Barron Collier about a minute and a half into it.
Andrew Elgin scored his second of the night after a good possession to make it 13-6 with 7:26 remaining.
Midway through the 4th the game got a little chippy. Barron Collier ended up down two and Gulf Coast down one but BC killed the penalty. The referees appear determined to not allow the game to end.
Sean Nash scored an easy one on the door step with 2:52 left to make it 14-6
Nash Oluwek scored with 2:22 left to bring it to 15-6.
