Dalton Cook and Zach Sutton combined for seven goals and four assists to help host Bartram Trail pull away from Fleming Island for a 12-9 victory Monday night. Cook, a senior committed to play for Catawba College next year, had three goals and Sutton had two during a 7-0 run that turned the game for the Bears. Bartram Trail took advantage of Fleming Island penalities, notching three of the goals over that stretch while enjoying a man-up advantage. While Cook and Sutton led the offense, the Bears defense shut out Fleming Island over the second and third quarters, forcing 25 turnovers overall.
Junior goalie Aaron Leirvik stopped 10 shots for Bartram Trail. The teams were deadlocked at four after a fast-paced first quarter during which Fleming Island sophomore Sam Barrington scored two unassisted goals. Five of the Golden Eagles’ goals were unassisted, while the Bears had assists on nine of their 12 scores. Michael Wires, who is joining Cook at Catawba in the Fall, had two goals for Bartram Trial, while the Golden Eagles’ Hayden LaVangie and Danny Schreiber also each tallied two scores.
The Bears improve their record to 5-3, while Fleming Island falls to 3-2.
