Lake Highland Prep 7-4 Over Lovett

March 7th – Lake Highland hosted previously undefeated and state ranked Lovett from Georgia on a cold windy night at the Lake Highland campus. Both teams showed equal balance on the offensive and defensive sides of the game during the majority of the game. Lovett scored the first two goals of the game but Lake Highland responded with goals by Junior Reid Thedford and Senior Ben Prizer with less than 3 minutes left in the first quarter to tie the score at 2 -2.
Both teams scored one goal each in the second quarter to end the half with a 3-3 tie.
Ten saves by Lovett’s goalie and seven saves by Adam Sawicki of LHP kept the game close. Lovett opened the third quarter with a quick score at the 10:01 mark to go up 4-3, but Lake Highland responded at the 2:31 mark by Senior Casey Wetzel to tie the game again at 4-4 going into the fourth quarter.
LHP was determined to keep the momentum going into the fourth quarter and the defensive responded with shutting down the Lovett offensive with only 2 shots on goal while Lake Highland’s offensive surged with goals scored at the 8:35 by Senior Jonathan Clayton, then 5:21 and 4:59 mark by Junior Reid Thedford to take the lead 7 to 4. Both goalies were tested by strong shooting on both sides each finishing with 12 saves each.
Senior Max Parker won 8 of 14 face offs. Junior Reid Thedford (3 goals 1 assist), Senior Ben Prizer (2 goals), Senior Casey Wetzel (1 goal) and Senior Jonathan Clayton (1 goal) led the Highlanders in scoring. Adam Sawicki finished with 12 saves and Senior Jacob Brantley Head at 8 ground balls. LHP next plays Winter Park at 7:30 PM on Wednesday March 12th at Winter Park. Lake Highland is 5 -1.
