The Belen Jesuit Wolverines won an inter-district game against the Miami-Killian Cougars in Cutler Bay, Florida last night with a final score of 14-10. Illegal stick penalties in the 1st and 4th quarters were devastating to the Cougars erasing an early goal and setting up prolonged man-up opportunities for the Wolverines that resulted in 5 goals. Despite at 6-2 lead at half time, the Cougars kept pulling close, but a strong Belen performance for a 5-3 goal advantage in the 4th quarter sealed the win.
Leading scorers for Belen included: Edwin Riccardo – 6 goals, Patrick Arrojo – 3 goals, Jorge Powell – 2 goals, followed by Robert Cosio, Kevin Pascual, and Michael Rodriguez with 1 goal. Robert Cosio had 4 assists, Patrick Arrojo – 3 assists, Ethan Rodriquez – 2 assists, followed by Kevin Pascual and Alejandro Portela with one assist.
Leading scorers for Miami-Killian included: Cole Cropley – 4 goals, David Felipe – 3 goals, followed by Ben Gross, Max Burger and Jose Medina with 1 goal. Five Cougars had assists: Austin Anderson, Max Burger, Warren Fields, Nick Shrack and Ben Gross.
Belen faces Gulliver Prep on Thursday. Miami-Killian next faces Immaculata LaSalle in their home opener on Thursday.
