Bolles Uses 6 Goal Run to Upend Fleming Island

By Mike Zima, Correspondent Attack Chris Rogowski led a six-goal stampede in the second half to help visiting Jacksonville Bolles pull away from Fleming Island for a 15-9 victory Thursday night. “Rogo was huge,” said Bolles coach Brian Silcott. “It was a bit of a break out game for him.” The senior co-captain dominated play during the decisive sequence.  Beginning with a wraparound bounce shot past Golden Eagles goalie Ryan Kelly and ending with a pass through traffic to Anthony Teixeira for an easy putaway, Rogowski either scored or had an assist on five of the six consecutive goals that turned a 7-7 third quarter tie into a 13-7 Bulldogs lead. Rogowski, a right-hander, scored two of his four goals with left-handed shots, and finished with three assists. It appeared that the Golden Eagles’ game plan was to try to prevent Teixeira, a Cornell commit, from getting the ball and to double team every time he did have the ball.  Teixeira still managed to find the net twice, and the rest of the Bulldogs proved more than capable of providing offense.  Middie Gray King registered a hat trick and two assists, while Anderson Gronvold chipped in with two goals.  In all, eight different Bulldogs scored. “We were opportunistic on offense,” said Silcott. “We found the open guys, and we shot well.” Another key advantage for Bolles was the play of face-off specialist Kyle Johnson, who won 10 of 11 face-offs in the second half and 16 of 22 on the evening. Bolles converted on four man-up opportunities in the second half. The Bulldogs improved to 3-3, and, more importantly, clinched the top seed in the district playoffs over Fleming Island and Jacksonville Mandarin. Fleming Island seized the early momentum, leading 3-0 six minutes into the game on the strength of goals from Hayden La Vangie, Sam Barrington and Devan Marquis.  But another six-goal onslaught by the Bulldogs spanning the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second lifted Bolles to a 6-5 halftime lead. Marquis and La Vangie each scored three goals, while Marquis and freshman Patrick Schreiber had two assists apiece for Fleming Island. The Golden Eagles fall to 7-2 and travel to Jacksonville Mandarin for another district game Tuesday, March 10.
