Oct. 31, 2013 From GoTerriers.com BOSTON – Boston University head men’s lacrosse coach Ryan Polley has named sophomore Elliott Burr, freshman Casey Irish and freshman Ryan Johnston captains for the program’s inaugural season. “I’m very excited to announce Elliot, Casey and Ryan as our captains,” Polley said. “They each bring a different type of leadership individually and they represent the type of student-athlete that we want at BU.” Burr came to BU after spending last season at national runner-up Syracuse, where he took two faceoffs in four games. He will be one of the Terriers’ key faceoff men, as evidenced by his performance against England on Oct. 23. He won 12 of the 13 draws he took and collected a team-high nine ground balls. “Elliott is a very vocal leader,” Polley said. “He’s done a tremendous job of bringing a winning culture to our program. He understands the work ethic that is needed to compete at the highest level and he’s done a very good job of coming in and being someone whom the guys can ask questions on how to play at the this level.” Irish is a 2013 US Lacrosse All-American defenseman who hails from Orlando, Fla. He captained Lake Highland Prep to the 2013 state title and was instrumental in two other trips to the state championship, including a win in his sophomore season. “Casey brings a tremendous work ethic to BU and I think that’s why his teammates voted him so high and why we selected him as a captain,” Polley said. “He comes to work every day with a blue-collar attitude and is not only doing a very nice job on the field, but his thing is that he leads by example. Everything he does is hard and efficient.” Johnston is the lone Canadian on the roster and played for Hill Academy in Ontario, helping Hill advance to finals of North American Lacrosse Invitational as a senior, before coming to BU. He had a hat trick and also collected a ground ball in the Terriers’ 11-8 exhibition win over England. “I don’t think anyone cares more about this program or his teammates than Ryan,” Polley said. “He’s done a tremendous job of being a great player on the field and doing all the right things off it. He’s been a pleasure to coach and work with and he’s done a tremendous job of acting the right way.”
