Major League Lacrosse announced today that Florida Launch attackman Casey Powell has been named 2014 Warrior Offensive Player of the Year, as voted on by MLL coaches and general managers. Powell’s dominance in all aspects of the offensive game, in conjunction with his consistency and high performance throughout the season, earned him the prestigious title. Powell earned 12 first place votes for a total of 67 points.

“I’m honored to receive the Offensive Player of the Year award after a great inaugural season with the Launch,” said Powell. “I had great players around me and great coaches who allowed me to achieve our goals and can’t say thank you enough to my teammates, coaches and the amazing fans for such an incredible season.”

Powell played in all 14 games during the Launch’s inaugural season where he scored 30 goals and 33 assists for a total of 63 points, leading the Launch in points and assists. In his 10th MLL season, Powell became the MLL’s all-time point’s leader with a total of 468 points, scoring in all 14 games this season. Powell, who led the MLL all season in points, boasts the second best shooting percentage in the league for an attackman (.524).

“I could not be happier for Casey Powell, the legend who continues to defy the aging process,” said Launch Head Coach Stan Ross. “He had an unbelievable year for us, especially at age 38. He was the ultimate player, great teammate and supportive leader, both on and off the field. We couldn’t have asked anything more from him this season.”

Powell was named Player of the Game three times during the season and Offensive Player of the Week twice. Powell boasted 10 multi-goal games and averaged 4.5 points per game, including a season-high of eight points at Boston where he scored four goals and four assists.

“After not playing full seasons the last couple of years I wanted to put in the extra effort and play as consistent as possible. It is great to represent where I’m living and help grow the game here in Florida,” said Powell.

This season was the true mark of Powell’s comeback. After receiving the Offensive Player of the Year title previously in 2005 with a total of 57 points (27g, 30a), the attack superstar’s career appeared to be winding down. Between 2011 and 2013, Powell played at most three regular season games a year, scoring no more than 6 points each season. Finishing 2014 with 63 points, Powell had his best statistical season since 2002.
