Dominant Third Quarter Gives Saint Leo the Edge in Key Conference Matchup  SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo men’s lacrosse head coach Brad Jorgensen picked up his 100^th career victory on Wednesday night at University Turf Stadium as the Lions defeated Catawba College in Deep South Conference action, 12-8.  A dominant third quarter gave Saint Leo the edge over the Indians, advancing the Lions’ record to 3-2, and 3-1 in DSC play, while Catawba drops to a mark of 2-3, and a conference mark of 0-2. The Lions saw stellar performances out of a plethora of players, with Chad Marino and Matt Obermeyer netting hat tricks to lead the game in goals scored.  Robert Hutchinson scored two goals of his own, while Kevin Hutchinson led the game in overall points with a goal and a game-high four assists on the evening. Tom Horn, Chris Caiazza, and George Proechel wrapped up the Lions scoring efforts for the night with one goal apiece.  John Laronga won 13-of-21 faceoff attempts while collecting three ground balls.  Paul Aramanda led the team with six ground balls, and wreaked havoc on the Indians attacking unit as he caused four turnovers on the night. Catawba was led by John Scheich and Matt Symes with two goals each as a total of six players contributed to the Indians’ scoring efforts. In cage for the Lions, freshman Dave Moore earned a total of 15 saves while collecting five ground balls and causing one turnover.  The Lake Mary, Fla. native picked up five key saves in the third quarter to hold the Indians off of the scoreboard completely, helping to give the Lions a four goal advantage entering into the final period. Saint Leo got the game rolling with the first two goals of the game, but two late tallies from the Indians with under two minutes to play in the first quarter knotted the score at 2-2 after the first 15 minutes of action. The second stanza saw Catawba outscore the Lions 2-1, leaving Saint Leo in a one goal deficit at the half with a score of 4-3.  Entering into the third quarter on a mission, the Green and Gold rattled off five unanswered goals throughout the entire period, including a shot from Obermeyer with seven seconds left, to pull ahead by a score of 8-4 with one quarter to go. The Lions bit first in the final quarter, with Robert Hutchinson finding the back of the cage with 11:57 to go.  But Catawba answered right back, scoring three goals over the ensuing four minutes to pull back to within range with a score of 9-7 in the Lions favor. Saint Leo, however, made easy work of the Indians’ defense, and rattled off three consecutive goals in a minute and 10 seconds to extend their lead to five with a score of 12-7 and 4:03 remaining.  Catawba saw a late goal from Adam Hebert with 3:05 left, but was able to play composed in the final minutes of action to secure their third straight win. The Lions trailed in the overall shot count, 47-31, but had the higher shots-on-goal percentage, with .645 of their shots on target compared to Catawba’s .489.  Saint Leo won the ground ball battle, 29-22, and were successful on 19-of-20 clear attempts.  A stalwart Lions man-down unit held the Indians to just two goals on seven man-up situations.
