Teamwork and brotherhood are the principles of the Creekside Knight’s lacrosse team. While almost anyone can teach the fundamentals of lacrosse and individuals can hone their stick skills, the Creekside Knights have determined that it is their trust in each other that will propel them further, as a program, than they’ve ever been before. Before the season started, the team discussed and adopted “brotherhood” as one of their 5 Core Values and it has been the foundation for their five wins this season. Brotherhood has been the approach to their practices – arriving on time and working hard for each other. During the games they proceed in the same manner. 70% of the 83 goals they’ve scored this season have been assisted. No one athlete is more important than the team, the team looks out for each other both on and off the field, and in the end they are there for each other regardless of age or social status. These principles, as chosen by the student-athletes, are not only the foundation for a solid sports team, but a starting block for life.
While Creekside has had a solid start to its season with some large wins, it will face its two toughest opponents next week with Ponte Vedra and Mantazas. Ponte Vedra has been the team to beat in District 6 for the last few years. Ponte Vedra just defeated Lake Highland Prep (3-time defending state champions) so Creekside will no doubt have their hands full against Ponte Vedra. Head Coach, Jason Alford, stated, “we are excited about the opportunity to play one of the best teams in the state.” Creekside’s performance during it’s game with Ponte Vedra will be a good test for Creekside to see where they stand compared to seasons past. Creekside will play at Ponte Vedra Tuesday night. Creekside also faces Mantazas on Friday. Mantazas just defeated a very well coached and talented Nease team. Regardless of the outcome Tuesday or Friday, one thing is for certain, the Knights will continue moving forward as a well united team.
