Creekside Over District Rival Bartram Trail 14-9

By Jen Watson Tuesday evening, the Creekside Knights arrived at Bartram’s stadium and watched as its JV team sustained a devastating defeat of 8-7 by a score that occurred in the final 8 seconds of the game.  The Varsity Knights knew that its district rival, the Bartram Bears, had nothing to lose and everything to gain in this game.  While the Knights fell short in the first few minutes of the game, they quickly turned it around for a 14-9 victory over the Bears. Creekside lost the first faceoff and Bartram scored within 45 seconds of the opening whistle.  Parker Scott of the Knights eventually tied up the score 1-1 with 9:40 left in the first quarter.  The Knights seemed to come alive after this score by Scott, scoring three more making it 4-1 at the end of the first quarter. However, Bartram rebuffed the Knights advancement at the opening of the 2nd quarter when Tommy Ruede for the Bears scored in 40 seconds after the quarter started.  Then within the next thirty seconds, Riley Smith scored for the Bears.  The score was 4-3 with 5:34 left in the 2nd quarter until Timmy Vanderlinde scored after a Knights timeout.  The Bears didn’t waste any time and scored back within a minute.  Heading into the half with a close score, Julian Bonilla came through for the Knights scoring with 21 seconds left in the half to make it 6-4 in favor of the Knights.  Julian Bonilla has been selected as First Coast News Athlete of the Week which is a great honor considering the number of schools and spring sports in the north Florida viewing area.  Bonilla’s story will be aired next week.  Creekside is very proud him and all their athletes. After the half, the Knights scored, then the Bears scored.  The Knights defense found a solid footing against the Bears.  Creekside’s Tiernan Hart dug in and anchored the Knights defense.  Around 8:28 left in the 3rd quarter, Creekside pulled far away scoring five more times making it 12-5 at the end of the 3rd quarter.  Finally in the 4th quarter, the Knights put up two more scores, but the Bears did not go quietly into the night as they scored three additional goals within the last three minutes of the game.  Head Coach Jason Alford stated, “this was a great team win for us……we are happy to have another win in our column especially against another district 6 team.  We have one of the toughest districts in the state top to bottom that makes for great competition at the district level alone.” The Knights play again on Thursday against Bolles at 8pm with a live broadcast from the game by lax904’s Ray Carnicelli on 1010XL/92.5FM.
