Courtesy: Delaware Athletics NEWARK, Del. — University of Delaware men’s lacrosse head coach Bob Shillinglaw has announced that a pair of former standouts from Colonial Athletic Association opponent schools have joined the Blue Hens coaching staff for the 2016 season. Dana Wilber, who starred as a defenseman at Drexel before coaching stints at Drexel, Haverford, and Cabrini, has been named a full-time assistant coach while Chris Selva, a standout goalkeeper at Hofstra the last four seasons, will be a volunteer assistant coach. Wilber will serve as the Hens’ defensive coordinator while Selva will work closely with the UD goalkeepers. The pair replaces Noah Fossner and Alex Jernstedt who each served on the UD staff the previous two seasons. Wilber enjoyed an outstanding career as a defenseman while at Drexel and most recently at the professional level in Major League Lacrosse. A 2013 graduate of Drexel with a degree in business, he earned USILA All-American and Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2012 as a close defender and long stick midfielder, was a two-time All-CAA selection in 2010 and 2012, and played in the 2012 USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game. He also served as captain as a senior. He is currently a fourth-year player in the MLL, having played one season with the Hamilton Nationals and two with the Ohio Machine. He was a MLL All-Star in 2015 and was named the Machine’s Defensive Player of the Year the previous season. Wilber began his coaching career  as an assistant at Washington (N.J.) Township High School in 2010-12 and helped the team win two Olympic Conference titles in 2011 and 2012 and the Gloucester County Cup championships in 2011. He served as a student assistant at Drexel in 2013, was an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Haverford in 2014, and served as assistant coach, defensive coordinator, and recruiting coordinator at Cabrini in 2015. He helped lead Cabrini to the Colonial State Athletic Conference title and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2015 when the defense ranked fourth nationally in scoring defense (6.2 goals per game). “I am excited to have Dana take over as defensive coordinator,” said Shillinglaw, who now in his 38th season at UD and his 41st season overall is one of the longest tenured active head coaches in college lacrosse. “Having coached against Dana while he played at Drexel and having seen him play in the MLL for both the Hamilton Nationals and the Ohio Machine I have always been impressed with his abilities as a player. His resume as a young coach is outstanding and he comes highly recommended. I am extremely excited to begin working with Dana.” “I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to work at the University of Delaware,” said Wilber, who resides in Washington Township, N.J. “The work environment is second to none with the experiences of our coaching staff, support from our administration, and the character of our team. Knowing the history of this program, I consider myself very lucky to be a part of the Delaware’s Men’s Lacrosse team.” Selva, who earned his degree in sociology with a minor in general business from Hofstra this past spring, had a standout career for the Pride in the nets. He served as captain of the team in 2015 and earned second team All-CAA honors in both 2013 and 2014. He led the CAA in goals against average in 2014 (8.29), was second in both goals against average (7.61) and save percentage (.602) in 2013, and was third in goals against average in 2015 (7.83). He worked the past two summers as goalkeeper coach and defensive coordinator for Team Revolution Lacrosse youth team out of Long Island, N.Y., was a summer camp instructor at Hofstra and Johns Hopkins the previous four summers, served as a sales rep for Lacrosse Wear out of Margate, Fla. in 2008-11, and was head coach of the Florida Xtreme youth team in 2012. “Chris is also a great addition to our program as our volunteer coach,” said Shillinglaw. “Chris’ major responsibilities will be working with our goalies, running the substitution box during games, and scouting and assisting with all aspects of our program. His CAA background and overall energy will be a major plus to our program. Our staff is excited to have him with our program.” “It’s an honor to be able to start my coaching career at a school with such a rich lacrosse tradition,” said Selva, who will reside in Elkton, Md. “I am extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to learn under a veteran staff and to be able to work with such dedicated student-athletes.” Delaware is already taking part in fall drills and will begin the 2016 season in February. The 2016 schedule will be announced later this month.
