The cross town rivalry between Oviedo and Hagerty lived up to all the hype. The game was very fast paced with big hits and a great display of shooting. Oviedo’s senior captain midfielder Dakota Dunmire got the game going with a quick goal in the first minutes of the game. Michael Conlon followed with a nice back door goal to put the Lions up 2-0. After what looked to become of a one sided game Hagerty won some key face offs that turned into a nice goal by Corey Schultey. Momentum was slowly turning back towards Hagerty’s way when Oviedo’s Dakota Dunmire started to take over the game. Dunmire scored off of an extra man oppertunity for the Lions to put them up 3-1. He then directly followed it up with a fast break goal off a face off to extend the lead to 4-1. Hagerty quickly took a time out to make sure the game did not get out of hand. Hagerty came out of the time out with a great two man game from Kevin Collins and Jacob Collins that the Oviedo defense could not stop. Granite Porcher added another goal for the Huskies to make it a 4-3 game. Dunmire responded with a dodge from X drawing the entire Hagerty defense in which he dumped a backdoor feed to Rylan Kortus who hit the top corner for a goal. Keith Smellie came back with a nice goal to put the score back within one goal. With minutes remaining Mark Smith intercepted Hagerty’s goalie to race down the field and end the first quarter with a goal to make it 6-4 Oviedo. The second quarter started off a lot like the first with Dakota Dunmire making an acrobatic one hand catch to save the clear from goalie Peter Bial. Dunmire then ran down the field to score his fourth goal of the night and put the Lions up 7-4. The second quarter faceoffs were dominated by Hagerty’s Senior Captain Connor Knaersboro. He lead the Huskies to win 11 of 18 face-offs. Oviedo made up for the faceoff losses however with some big saves from Junior goalie Peter Bial. Bial’s saves lead to some great transition plays for the Lions that later set up Rylan Kortus for his second goal of the night, putting the Lions up 8-4. This was Oviedo’s largest lead of the night and looked like they were going to pull away when Hagerty’s Senior attackmen Kevin Collin scored a nice bounce shot to stop the momentum and make it an 8-5 game. Austin Mowell followed Collins with a goal on an Extra Man Oppurtunity for the Huskies to pull the game with in two. The second quarter ended with a huge hit from Rylan Kortus on Hagerty’s goalie Bronson Reano to leave an open goal for Matt Mullins to score on. At half time the score was 9-6 Oviedo’s lead. Hagerty came out firing in third quarter with a quick goal by Kevin Collin for his second goal of the night. The game went back and forth for a while when the Oviedo goalie hit a hail mary clear to Senior Captain Davis Goodman for a one on one with Hagerty Goalie, Tanner Ward. Tanner Ward held his ground and stuffed Davis Goodman on the doorstep. This was the fourth big save that the Hagerty goalies had on Goodman from the crease. Oviedo midfielder, Logan Smith bailed Goodman out by having another interception off the clear and running it back for a goal. The game went back and forth with goals on each side. Hagerty midfielder Keith Smellie put up two more goals to get the hat trick for night. Oviedo responded with a goal from Adam Lager who was just came in off the bench. Right after Dunmire responded with a fast break off a face off win to assist Davis Goodman on the back door for his first goal of the night and Dunmire’s second assist. Smellie responded with a great shot right in the corner. At the end of the third the score was tied at 12. Hagerty started the fourth quarter with an illegal stick which kept them man down for one minute. Oviedo took several shots but none of them could find the cage. Tanner Ward made a big save for Hagerty’s Man Down Unit which he turned into a transition goal for Jacob Collins. This was Hagerty’s first lead of the game at 13-12 and looked like they were going to run away with the win. However, Oviedo’s Dakota Dunmire had other plans. He won a key face off to gain possession for the Lions. Moments later Dunmire unleashed a low to high cannon to tie it at 13 and stop the bleeding. Minutes later Connor Knaersboro scored a goal with an assist from Chris Carpenter. This put Oviedo on their heels and looking to their senior heavy offense to make a play. Dakota Dunmire won another key faceoff to get possession of the ball for Oviedo to try and tie the game up. Senior attackman Davis Goodman had a very rough night for the majority of the game but in the final minutes he hit a big shot to tie the game at 14. This was Goodman’s second goal of the night. With two minutes remaining Dunmire won another key faceoff to give the Lions a chance to win the game. Oviedo was working the ball around when Hagerty pressured and gave up a big slashing penalty to give Oviedo a Man Up possession. This was the turning point Oviedo needed. Seconds into the Man Up possession Mark Smith hit Adam Lager for what would end up being the game winning goal. Hagerty got the ball off the faceoff with a big ground ball from Connor Knaersboro. The Huskies had 57 seconds to try and tie the game. Peter Bial made a great save on Corey Schultey from 8 yards out, however, Hagerty rode hard and got the ball right back. With 15 seconds later Bial made another great deflection save on Kevin Collins which sent the ball bouncing out. Dakota Dunmire came up with a great ground ball after a battle with four Hagerty players to run the clock out.
