We will be able to run and be tough.” Some players to watch: Mike Perry-Junior middy- Excellent faceoff and scorer Jon Nickas- Goalie, Sr. Solid in all phases Senior Attack- Alex Gonzalez, Kyle Glaser, and Nick Quesada- Work well together unselfish and smart Defense Alex Cancio and Sebastian Polo- Solid stick skills and athletic.   Columbus-Bulnes-shooting-on-bj-33   CC knocked off Gulliver Prep 12-9 to win the district and their only losses were to STA twice, Boca Raton, Pope John Paul II and an early season upset to W.T. Dwyer.  This season University School and American Heritage/Boca are added to the slate.   Gulliver Prep went 9-8 overall, 4-3 in district, knocking off Ransom in the first round of districts before losing a hard fought 12-9 final to Columbus Catholic.  Gulliver played a tough out-of-conference schedule last season, with a 5-3 loss at Barron Collier being one particularly strong performance.  Road losses to SA, Ponte Vedra and Maclay should pay dividends this year.  PV and BC are nowhome games and Stoneman Douglas has replaced SA this year.   Gulliver-Pierce_Bailey   Coach Jim Piggot is looking to juniors CJ Hassan at midfield and Trevor Pelletier on attack both Juniors, senior middie Johnnie Walker and Corey and Curtis Langer on defense.   Ranson Everglades finished the year strongly, winning 5 of their last 6 regular season games before falling in the first round.  A few goals here and there and the record would be very good, given the OT loss at University, a one goal loss at Pine Crest and a two goal loss to St. Edwards, all solid teams.  Stoneman Douglas has been added this season.   Ransom-27-4141   Led by Coach Roy Kelly, Ransom Everglades expects the following seniors to lead the team this season; Defensemen Eddy Garcia-Montes (MIT), Attackmen Alec Allmon and Attack/Middie Nic Murphy will dictate much of our success.  Junior Goalie Stephen Stricker has had a very good preseason and will be another great RE goalie before he graduates.  Coach Kelly also noted “Columbus is still the team to beat until they lose.  Belen is now becoming a force with a new MS program and Gulliver is always competitive”.   Belen Jesuit garnered an 11-6 regular season record in Alan Bellando’s first year at the helm, although they struggled against the better teams.  Coach Bellando expects better times ahead as he noted:  “We have a very young team, but very athletic team, we can make some waves as the season progresses.  This year we just started a middle school program for 6-8th graders. The Varsity will attend a Wounded Warrior Event in Jacksonville and will play against St. Augustine and Flagler Palm Coast. LIU-Post plays right after our game vs St.Augustine”.  (Of course that will be a treat for Alan as his son Matt is now playing for LIU!)   Belen Jesuit 2015 Team Pic     Belen is looking towards Matt Salas Jr. Goalie, Oscar Ortega Jr. Defenseman, Ted Huertas Jr. Defenseman, Danny Dager Jr. Attackman and Brian Pascual Jr. Midfielder to lead the team.  A good omen for the squad going into the year was their victory in the preseason Catholic School event at Pope John Paul II.   Miami Country Day struggled to a 5-8 record in this tough district, but did earn a good road win over Calvary Christian.  Head Coach Matt Bainbridge will need to take the longer view to build the program up.   Coach Bainbridge wrote us the following:  “We will have a young squad with 15 freshmen on the team but anchored by returning leading scorers midfield Austen Weinberg and Pablo Mejia we feel confident we will have a successful season.  Returning starting attack Tyler Grosman will lead a young but capable attack and when you have the best goalie in every game you will always have a chance.”   David Butter Miami Country Day School   Goalie Paul Julian Giraud will be moving on to Duke next year.  Alex Hansen is also being counted on to make a difference.     New coach Chris Crotty takes over the reins at Immaculata-LaSalle, which went 3-11 last season.
