This is our fifth installment of the FHSAA season preview.  We kept track of teams and players around the state, spoke to coaches, and watched some fall ball and think we have a pretty good handle on who is who in each district.  So here we go! District 15 Plant won this district in 2014 and moved on to knock off a good Newsome team by one goal to move onto the round of 16.  They graduated a good class which included Julian Taylor  (Roanoke) and Grant Preston (W&L) but they still have stand out Bennett Taylor (Army.) This is a very competitive district and it’s wide open. Jesuit beat Plant convincingly during the regular season and then lost convincingly in the district playoffs (14-5, 7-13.) They have strong players at all positions including attackman Stephano Mastro (Mount St. Mary’s,)   middie Hunter Revord, and Michael McHale on defense. Most of the district 15 coaches we spoke with think this could be the Tigers’ year. Steinbrenner hopes to give Jesuit and H.B Plant some competition in district 15 this year. Keep an eye on returning 1st team All-Western Conference attackman Landon Howard.  Howard is a player that should be on everyone’s watch list.  He racked up 45 goals last year with a 50% shooting average. Senior Captain, Charlie Eidelman joins him on the attack unit. James Cowan is looking for a break out season as the junior F/O Middie is looking to make some noise this year.  He is a solid dodger and can shoot well down the alley.  Defensive Captain Brandon Noriega is an experienced and tough defender who will be getting the difficult assignments this season. Berkeley Prep  is hoping to be in the mix this year.  Senior Nick Ludy has had a great career as a four year starter at attack and no doubt would love to finish up playing for a district championship.  He is joined by a couple of young players who could give him that opportunity.  Sophomore goalie Bo Hoover and sophomore middie David Gasser. Robinson returns the majority of it’s starting line up for the first time in four years.  Look for senior midfielder Alex Wilsey to remain this teams offensive threat.  Fellow senior Justin Fontes is a player to watch and should rack up some good numbers himself this year. Jefferson was winless in 2014 and no doubt are looking for the first “W” in this program’s second year. Alonso and first year program, Sickles round out this first year program.
