FHSAA Preseason Preview – District 32

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
District 32 Last season District 32 was decided by the two District 31 teams Coral Shore and Miami-Palmetto so this is a wide open blank slate.  The four schools are Coral Shores, located in, Key West, Palmer Trinity and Westminster Christian, making this district easily the most geographically dispersed in the state.  Road trips for Key West will be draining.  A cute note is that this writer was on a cruise a few months back and when the boat docked in Key West we got off and while walking around spotted the ‘oldest house on the island’ and stopped in for a visit, only to find out the woman working the office had her relative on the team!   LNN_Florida_Classic_Logo_Final-01_opt   Key West enters their second season as a varsity program and Coach Jake Luce wrote into us with his thoughts: “The defense looks to be the strong point of the team this year which is anchored by Sophomore goalie Joey Eppy. He started all games last year and will be looking to prove that he is the best goalie in the district in 2016. The defense is led by Junior Captains Michael Simonoff and Sixto Lima. Simonoff started all games last year at defense and Lima is a converted attackman to ensure the defense is the Conchs’ strongest position. Offensively, the attack will be led by sophomores Dean Wallen and Josh McAlearney who are both played reserve roles last year. Juniors Kolby Kelleher and Colin Lutz will likely head the scoring for the midfielders as they were two of the top scorers last year. Key West lost their leading scorer and three senior captains. The young team does not have any seniors on their 2016 roster.” He then went on to add: “Coral Shores will always be a highlight game for our program. They are the only other team in the Florida Keys and have been established for a decade. They helped build our program and have truly supported our growth. Last year the Hurricanes beat Key West handily but the Conchs look to make the game more competitive and build a lacrosse rivalry in the keys. Coral Shores is certainly the team to beat for Key West. Serving last year as a mandatory independent, Key West will be in a district for the first time in program history. We have two main goals. Beat Coral Shores, and get to the District Championship (ahead of Palmer Trinity and Westminster Christian). If we can get on a competitive level with all three teams, we will have a chance to win the district tournament which is our real goal: District Champions.”   Key West 2016 #1_opt     Westminster Christian is coming off a 1-11 record in their first full season as a program and Coach Brendan Fisher looks to improve on both sides of the ball.  Their lone victory was over their first year peer St. Brendan.  Good luck to them going forward.   Coral Shores finished last season with a 5-5 record, sweeping the home and home with Key West.  In their wins they put up a lot of goals and goals against was a problem in their losses.  Coach Dan Flynn looks to improve on that and they’ve added a home game with Ransom Everglades to test their progress.   Coral Shores 2015   Palmer Trinity finished the season with a 5-8 record, losing to Miami Palmetto in districts.  A win over North Broward Prep was the highlight of the season.  Goals against was the Achilles heel in the games they lost.  Kyle Henize takes over for Chris Galgano as coach.   Back to main preview page
