via press release   “Yankee Stadium of Lacrosse” will house Panthers’ matchup with Wheeling Jesuit on March 7 MELBOURNE, Fla. (Men’s Lacrosse) – For more than 100 years, Homewood Field has been the “Yankee Stadium of College Lacrosse.” Next Monday, the 8,500 seat facility will serve as the setting for Florida Tech’s upcoming matchup with Wheeling Jesuit on March 7. Built in 1906, Homewood Field has housed Johns Hopkins’ prestigious lacrosse program over the last century. The stadium has also been home to Major League Lacrosse’s Baltimore Bayhawks and the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship in 1975 along with countless other high profile games. The U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame is actually positioned adjacent to Homewood. Florida Tech head coach Ryan McAleavey is excited for the opportunity for the Panthers to compete at one of the most tradition-rich venues in all of college lacrosse. “There’s so much history, so many national champions have played on that field,” he stated. “Having the opportunity to compete at that historic stadium is just awesome for our program. The fact that a lot of our guys are from that area, could really work out to our favor. It’s going to allow us to draw a crowd that makes it almost feel like a home game for our guys and we’re just looking forward to it. “I did it when I was in college. We played at Homewood and it’s gone through a lot of changes and upgrades since then. I think a lot of our guys are very excited to have the chance to play in front of their friends and family at Homewood.” The Panthers contest against Wheeling Jesuit is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
