Florida Tech opens 10-game home stand with matchup against Chestnut Hill on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET
MELBOURNE, Fla. (Women’s Lacrosse) – On Tuesday, Florida Tech (1-0) will look to continue rolling offensively when it welcomes Chestnut Hill (0-1) to Florida Tech Panther Stadium for a 7 p.m. ET opening draw.
Florida Tech enters the matchup with just one official game under its belt, a 16-11 season opening victory over Roberts Wesleyan on Feb. 17. Leading 7-5 with less than nine minutes remaining in the first half, the Panthers went on a 7-3 run over the next 19 minutes of action to break the game open.
Sara Grenier paced the Panthers with five goals and an assist against the Redhawks, while Allie Modica found the back of the net four times. Caroline Dunleavy, Jordan Grant and Sarah Kapinos each tallied two goals in the win.
Sam Schiano collected seven draw controls and five groundballs, both game-highs, to go along with a team-best three caused turnovers. In goal, Stephanie Stuart made eight saves on 19 shots faced.
Since then the Panthers have competed against two non-Division II opponents in Ave Maria on Feb. 20 and Neumann on Feb. 28. Florida Tech’s offense overpowered opposing defenses in the two games winning both games by a combined 38-5.
Chestnut Hill is coming off a 19-8 defeat at the hands of No. 10 West Chester in its season opener on Feb. 24. The Golden Rams dominated the Griffins in the first half and jumped out to a 15-4 lead before the break thanks to a 24-4 edge in shots.
Emorie Keimig paced CHC with three goals and Julia Galantich added one goal and two assists. Four other Griffins tallied one goal apiece in the loss. Hunter Leckonby lead the Chestnut Hill defense with four goundballs and four caused turnovers.
The contest with the Griffins kicks off a 10-game home stand by the Panthers to open March.
