
FIT Men: Florida Tech Visits Florida Southern to Open SSC Play

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Men’s Lacrosse) –On Saturday, Florida Tech (5-3) will get its first crack at a Sunshine State Conference-opponent when it travels to Lakeland to take on Florida Southern (7-5) at 7 p.m. ET at Bryant Stadium.
FIT has dropped two of its last three contests, with the one victory being an 11-7 result over Alderson Broaddus on March 10. The Panthers’ two losses were both on the road and against elite competition, in No. 4 Seton Hill on March 7 and top-ranked Limestone on March 19.
The No. 1 Saints scored the first 17 goals of the game and led 18-1 at halftime. FIT added six more tallies to its total over the third and fourth quarters and eventually fell to the two-time defending champs 23-7.
The midfield accounted for all seven goals in the game. Austen Zugelter led the unit with a hat trick while Brett Pohlmeyer andJason Terry scored two and one goal, respectively. Long stick midfielder Teddy Chase also got on the board, recording his first career goal off a feed from Tyler Covey, who finished with two assists in the game.
Cody Martin leads Florida Tech with 17 points on 11 goals and six assists while Austen Zugelter is the top goal scorer with 14 goals. Brian Bacarella has 16 point on 11 goals and Charlie Morrisette also boasts 16 points, including a team-best nine assists.
Addison Abramson and Austen Lison, of Florida Southern, are tied atop the SSC with 16 caused turnovers apiece, however it has only taken Abramson eight games to reach the mark while Lison played a dozen.
At the faceoff dot, Travis Wunder and FSC’s Joseph Biondi, Jr. boast the seventh (.599) and eighth (.569) best win percentages in the league. However, Biondi tops the SSC with 124 wins while Wunder ranks third with 106.
The Moccasins have played 11 of their first 12 contests this season at Bryant Stadium, although, it has not worked to FSC’s advantage as it boasts just a 6-5 record on its home field.
The Mocs, however, have won their last two contests at home and scored a combined 30 goals over the two games, including a baker’s dozen in their last outing – a 13-6 win over Adams State.
Lucas Claude tallied five goals and an assist against ASU, and leads FSC with 45 on a team-high 27 goals. Cody Gray added two goals and one assist in the victory, and is currently second on the squad with 39 points on 20 goals and a team-best 19 assists. Tyler Kopen and Cody Dyer have 11 assists apiece, and rank second (26) and third (24) on the team in goals, respectively.
The Panthers earned their first ever victory over the Moccasins a year ago, winning 11-7 on FIT’s Senior Night. FSC won the previous three meetings and outscored the Crimson and Gray 48-38 over the span.
