(Women’s Lacrosse) – 20th-ranked Florida Tech (8-2) will play its first road games of the season this weekend when the Panthers embark on a two-game voyage that will take them to Missouri and Illinois over the next three days. The first stop on the tour pits the Panthers against what could be their stiffest competition of the season in No. 3 Lindenwood (9-0) on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET in St. Charles, Missouri. FIT is fresh off a defensive struggle with Mercy yesterday, in which they had to overcome the rain and a 2-1 halftime deficit to defeat the Mavericks 5-3. Mary Gormley provided the eventual game winner with 21:46 remaining in the second half to give the Panthers a 4-3 lead, andAllie Modica sealed the victory with 22 seconds left on the clock to give FIT its eighth win of the season. It was definitely the sloppiest game of the season for Florida Tech as five of the top six scorers combined for 20 total turnovers. Luckily, the defense was up to the challenge, causing 16 turnovers and holding the Mavericks to their lowest output of the season. The Panthers will need to get back to playing their game quickly if they want to keep pace with a Lady Lions’ squad that is outscoring opponents 131-54 this season. Lindenwood cruised to a home victory over No. 12 Limestone 12-5 on March 2. Maddi Ossello paced LU with three goals and an assist in the win. Amanda Schimpke added a hat trick and Jordyn Constance recorded two goals and one assist. Allison Hurley leads LU with 33 points on a team-high 18 assists while Constance has 25 points on 14 goals and 11 assists. Sophie Buelow is third on the team with 23 points and Schimpke tops the Lions with 20 goals. Erin Abbott leads Lindenwood in draw controls (32), ground balls (16) and caused turnovers (14). The Lions have started two different goalies this season, Rachel Ortell (5-0) and Delaney Solomon (4-0). Ortell has played in eight games, making 24 saves while allowing 6.45 goals per game. Solomon boasts a similar stat line in seven games, with 20 saves and a 5.51 goals-against average. The Panthers and Lions have already played two common opponents, in Indianapolis and Indiana (Pa.). LU defeated U Indy 15-0 in its season opener on Feb. 13 and had to come back in the second half against Indiana (Pa.) to earn a 9-8 victory on March 13. Florida Tech outscored IUP 15-11 on March 5 before routing Indianapolis 16-5 on March 16.   Links to live stats, courtesy of Lindenwood, can be accessed at FloridaTechSports.com.
