FIT Men: Panther Close Trip with Victory Over Battlers 11-7

(Men’s Lacrosse) – After falling to No. 4 Seton Hill less than 24 hours ago, Florida Tech (5-2) rebounded with a 11-7 victory over Alderson Broaddus (2-2) on Thursday to close out the Panthers’ three-game road trip. Charlie Morrisette paced all players with three goals to go along with an assist while Logan Sweeney contributed two goals and one assist in the win. Matt Weinstein notched two goals for the second game in a row while Jason Terry added a goal and an assist. Cody Martin,Austen Zugelter and Nick Brown all scored one goal apiece. The Battlers scored first in the game on a goal by Joseph Ravenell off a feed from Keir Yonge. Eight minutes would pass before the Panthers got on the board with an unassisted tally by Martin to tie it up at 1-1 with 4:14 remaining in the first quarter. FIT and ABU exchanged the next four goals with Morrisette adding the equalizer at the 2:10 mark of the second to make it a 3-3 game before the teams went into the break. A man-down goal by Yonge gave the Battlers the lead again 4-3 with13:23 still left in the third, however the Panthers responded with a five-goal run, all by five different players, to jump ahead 8-4 with less than two minutes left in the quarter. ABU cut its deficit to one, 8-7, with three straight tallies to start the fourth period. Again, FIT would answer with three of its own, including a goal by Sweeney with 48 seconds to go, to put the game out of reach as the Panthers went on to win their fifth of the season. Yonge topped all Battlers with two goals and two assists while Joseph Collins added two scores of his own. Joel Hicks, Connar Abrams and Ravenell each had one goal in the contest. ABU outshot the Panthers in the game (42-37) although most of those came in the second period in which the Battlers took 20 total shots but only scored one goal. Both teams finished with 26 ground balls. FIT dominated the faceoff dot with Travis Wunder winning 16-of-21 for the game to go along with his game-high seven ground balls. Christian Koch improved his record to 3-2 while making 10 saves against the Battlers. His counterpart Dom Moriarty (2-2) made 12 saves in the loss. Florida Tech will now have a nine-day layoff to recuperate before its upcoming matchup against two-time defending national champion, No. 1 Limestone on Saturday, March 19 at 1 p.m. in Gaffney, South Carolina.
