FIT Women: Panthers Look to Bounce Back Against Young Harris on Friday

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Women’s Lacrosse) – Coming off its first loss of the season, Florida Tech (3-1) will look to get back on track when Young Harris comes to town on Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
The Panthers lost a heartbreaker to American International on Wednesday. With the score tied at 9-9 in a back-and-forth affair, a late goal by the Yellow Jackets with 22 seconds remaining ended FIT’s undefeated run as it fell to AIC 10-9.
Three Panthers, Sara Grenier, Sam Schiano and Mary Gormley, each scored twice in the loss. Caroline Dunleavey added a goal and an assist while Allie Modica and Sarah Kapinos each scored one goal.
Modica finished with a game-high five ground balls and Arielle Gunderson led all players with four caused turnovers.
Young Harris (4-3) has lost three straight after opening the season with four consecutive wins. In their recent matchup, the Mountain Lions fell to Slippery Rock 18-10 on Tuesday, March 8. Jaclyn Kernohan finished with five points on three goals and two assists. Nicole Kernohan added two goals while five other players found the back of the net once.
Kendra Parenteau is YHC’s top points-getter with 25 points on 15 goals and 10 assists while Nicole Kernohan leads the Mountain Lions in goals with 22. Erika Cross has 13 goals and six assists adds Sarah Bialecki also has 19 points including a team-high 13 points.
Meghan Tonnesen paces YHC in draw controls with 31. Julia Darroch has started all seven games between the pipes for the Mountain Lions, making 43 saves and allowing 51 goals.
The Panthers routed Young Harris 20-8 in their previous matchup on March 28, 2015. Modica paced FIT on the day recording a program single-game best nine points on seven goals and two assists. Grenier added six points with four goals and two assists and Caroline Dunleavy recorded four goals and an assists in the win.
