FIT Women: Panthers Meet Lions in Battle for No. 3 Seed

(Women’s Lacrosse) – Florida Tech (7-7, 1-2 SSC) heads to Saint Leo University (8-7, 1-2 SSC) for its final regular season contest of the season on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET at the University Turf Stadium. The winner of this matchup will claim the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Sunshine State Conference Tournament on April 24-26. FIT was overpowered in its last game against a more experienced Florida Southern squad. The No. 5 Mocs defeated the Panthers 19-4, and as a result locked up the No. 1 seed in the SSC Tournament. Sophomore Allie Modica paces the Florida Tech offense with 63 points on 46 goals and leads the team in both assists (17), ground balls (46) and draw controls (53). Freshman Sara Grenier has a team-high 54 goals in addition to seven assists. On defense, freshman Haley Heggblod leads the way with a team-high 17 caused turnovers as well as 27 ground balls on the season. Saint Leo is coming off a 19-3 loss at No. 4 Lindenwood (Mo.) on Saturday. The Lions fell behind 14-2 at halftime en route to their fourth defeat against a ranked opponent this season. Freshman Abbie Ross leads Saint Leo with 30 points on a team-high 28 goals and two assists.
