
FIT Women: Panthers Overpower Dragons 17-9

GAFFNEY, S.C. (Women’s Lacrosse) – Florida Tech continued its impressive offensive output in the early season on Sunday, this time running past Tiffin for a 17-9 victory in a neutral site matchup at Limestone College.
Three different Panthers, Caroline Dunleavy, Sara Grenier and Sam Schiano, recorded four goals apiece in the win. Grenier also dished out a pair of assists to finish with a game-high six points, while Dunleavy added one assist to her stat line. Allie Modica and Aleah Fjelstad notched two goals and an assist, each.
Mary Gormley, Modica and Schiano tied for the team-high with four draw controls. Lauren Tybor led all players with five caused turnovers and Stephanie Stuart (2-1) made eight saves in goal for the Panthers.
Dunleavy got FIT on the board first in the game with a woman-up goal from Fjelstad just 1:43 into the contest. Tiffin responded with goals by Tori Nelson and Elle Hamilton over a 42 second span to grab a 2-1 advantage with 26:14 still remaining in the half.
Dunleavy knotted the game up a 2-2 off an assist from Modica, sparking the Panthers’ 9-1 run that gave them a 10-3 lead heading into halftime.
Grenier opened the second half scoring with an uassisted effort to increase the margin to eight with 25:34 left on the clock. After Elle MacMillan cut the deficit to 11-4, Dunleavy and Leah Dunn found the back of the net for the Panthers and pushed the lead to nine at the 22:40 mark.
MacMillan single-handedly outscored FIT 4-1 over a 10 minutes span, decreasing TU’s disadvantage to six goals, 14-8, with 10:50 remaining. However, the Panthers produced three of the finals four goals, on tallies by Dunleavy, Fjelstad and Grenier, to shut the door on the Dragons and win their second game in a row.
