
FIT Women: Panthers Take Down Hawks for Fourth Straight Victory 14-7

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Women’s Lacrosse) – Three Panthers recorded a hat trick and Florida Tech defeated Saint Anselm College 14-7 Saturday afternoon at Panther Stadium.
Sara Grenier, Caroline Dunleavy and Lauren Tybor all finished with three goals in the victory. Leah Dunn produced three points on two goals and an assist. Allie Modica and Sam Schiano chipped in one goal and one assist, apiece.
Mary Gormley led the Panthers in ground balls with six to go along with two draw controls. Schiano finished with four ground balls and tied with Arielle Gunderson for the team-lead with three caused turnovers. Stephanie Stuart (4-1) picked up her fourth victory of the season while making nine saves in goal.
FIT kicked off the scoring with goals by Dunleavy, Grenier and Tybor and took a 3-0 lead just 9:45 into the game. Saint Anselm answered with three straight tallies to tie the contest at the 9:05 mark of the first half. Goals by Tybor and Schiano gave the Panthers a 5-3 advantage as the teams went into the break.
The Hawks cut the deficit to one early in the second half but Aleah Fjelstad and Grenier found the back of the net to increase the Panthers’ lead to three, 7-4, with 24:23 left in the stanza. After a pair of goals by SAC brought the margin to 7-6, Modica, Dunleavy and Dunn each tallied unassisted goals to give FIT its fifth double-digit scoring game of the season.
Saint Anselm scored its final goal of the game to make it 10-7 with 8:28 left. From there, the Panthers added four more goals, the last coming off the crosse of Dunn, to grab a 14-7 lead with 25 seconds remaining.
Florida Tech returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, Mar. 5, with a neutral site matchup against Montevallo at noon ET in Tampa, Florida.
