MELBOURNE, Fla. (Men’s Lacrosse) – The struggles continued for Florida Tech on Saturday as the Panthers were handed their fourth consecutive defeat, 12-11, to the Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit at Panther Field.
Nick Wynne led FIT with four goals. Cody Martin recorded four points on three goals and an assist, while Reid Chaconas notched a hat trick.
Carson Clough scooped up a game-high 12 ground balls. Bryce Johnson finished with a team-best two caused turnovers.
Flock (1-4) took the loss while making eight saves in goal. His counterpart, Jake Lilly (1-4), was a major factor in the Cardinals’ first victory of the season with 13 stops in between the pipes.
The Panthers’ downfall came as a result of the play of WJU’s Dereck Downs who scored seven of the Cardinals’ goals in the game, including the game winner with four seconds remaining on the clock.
FIT fell to WJU despite ending with an advantage in shots, 51-32, and ground balls, 53-43, while also winning 19-of-27 faceoffs in the game.
Next up for Florida Tech is a home matchup with Chestnut Hill on Tuesday, Mar. 7, at 12:30 p.m. ET at Panther Field. Fans can access live coverage of the action at FloridaTechSports.com/live.
